Disappointing Quality - What Else Lurks Ahead?

I bought it with loader and 60- inch mid mower. Below is what was wrong before I even got on the tractor when it was delivered. It does get some use especially with the loader, but the quality and durability is just not there. 1) I filled the tank all the way and the fuel gauge plate leaked like someone put a hole in it. 2) The mower wheel bracket was welded on crooked so the wheel wouldn't turn. I had to take it back to the dealer. And over time... 3) Only a few years after having it, the throttle lever kept slipping down. It took 20 years for that to happen on my JD400. 4) The power take-off lift cylinder locked up due to blown gaskets in the internal valves. 5) The gas cap lid broke off. 6) The right rear wheel seal leaked to the point had to fix it. 7) The mower deck front adjusting bars kept bending. I had to weld special brackets on. Then, later the mower lift arm adjustment link broke. I mow a lot and on some hills but for a 300-pound mower the setup is sad. 8) Last year a weld broke inside the seat making it un-adjustable. I had to do some surgery to get at it to weld it back on. Keep in mind this tractor is garage kept. The seat tilt mechanism also had to be freed up while I was in there. This is my fault, but I dropped dirt on it from tilting the bucket too high/fast and destroyed the plastic hood. This is my first large hydro tractor and I’m not sure if it is normal but the engine/tranny sounds like it is hauling 80 tons but gets the job done. When I bought a John Deere I thought I was paying for something that was well built, and for +$22,000 I think I should expect that. I think John Deere quality control was out to lunch when they built mine. Plus, there was the electronic speed limit option (not cruise control) which they charged more for but really for the price shouldn't have.
Pros: Comfortable ride, brakes on opposite sides of forward pedals

Fantastic With One Major Exception

I bought my 4410 to help with maintaining my horse paddocks, mowing lanes through my pastures and odd jobs around the place. For the most part, I've been incredibly happy. The tractor is small enough to get into some tight places and powerful enough to do ALL of the jobs I've needed it for. The mid-line Power take-off for the belly mower is great and the power and lift of the loader is equally just what I wanted. I will say, however, that the bad plastic, cracking and hard to fix hood needs serious improvement. The fuel door was already gone and the area around the hinges had the beginnings of cracks in them. It seems from the internet that I'm not the only one who has had these problems. Maybe rethink that next time, John Deere.
Pros: Power and little size, 4-wheel drive and hydrostatic are fantastic
Cons: The hood, and also maybe the annoyance of finding replacement 25 x 8.5 by 14 tires.

Housing Unit
Model Year: 2005
I have a 4410 John Deere with a backhoe. The rear axles crumbled and rear housing unit needs a new one. The local dealership says about $6,000 to do the work including a sub-frame. In a dilemma on what to do?
Pros: I use backhoe and loader as a wheelbarrow. And shovel!
Cons: I think the aluminum casting should be iron casting for axles.

Easy to Start and Effiecent to Operate

I bought this tractor to pull logs out of my bush for firewood. When I bought the tractor it had some TLC requirements but the price was good and it had the 430 loader on it and power beyond and a additional 3 port operating valve on the fender above the coffee cup holder. So I bought a newer frontier sb1174 snow blower that thought would be a little too big for it as they told me to only go a 60". Well it will throw 12-16" of wet snow like nothing! Impressed the heck out of me. it has a canopy with a clear plastic snap in screen off of it that's great to stop the snow from getting on you. But the thing I notice the most in even in -30C weather it starts right up after a 10 second glow plug shot. Would buy another one for sure! P.S not HST but a shuttle transmission only.
Pros: Efficient and easy to start.
Cons: Digital dash palms.

Have had a few problems with electronics (fuel gauge and dash), but otherwise has been a reliable tractor. Would not buy one of these tractors without front wheel assist and hydro transmission.
Pros: For the most part well laid out controls.
Cons: That being said I don't like the throttle on the dash. Should be on the side console.

Great Piece of Machinery

As a former landscape contractor (over 27 years), I knew what I was looking for in a compact utility tractor for my place when I retired. While this tractor was not subjected to all the rigors of commercial use like my other 12 John Deere's it has been loaned to all the neighbors and run by several people that do not have the skill sets that a seasoned professional has. With all this usage that some would classify as abuse, there have only been a few minor safety switch issues and these might be a result of that usage.
Pros: Well built, easy to maintain.
Cons: More expensive than similar, more cheaply built machines.

Excellent Machine

This tractor is great. It has done everything I have asked. The biggest problems I have had are during maintenance. The clips holding on the hood and engine side covers on are cheap. The threads on the hydraulic fill cap are horribly miss aligned and need to be re-taped.
Pros: Great power for the size. Easy to use. Maintenance is fair.
Cons: Cheap plastic latches holding the hood and sides on. Belly mower difficlut to attach/remove. Hydraulic fill reservoir.

My Third Tractor

My first tractor was a lawn tractor (Sears Craftsman) broke the transaxle trying to do some pulling. Second tractor was an 8N Ford it was a good tractor but the PTO only ran while the clutch was out. My John Deere is by far the best. It is a 4410 with a bucket and backhoe and it has served me well.
Pros: More digging power than other tractors I tried.
Cons: Drivers seat and backhoe seat are separate.

I needed a tractor for the following: 1) Maintain 1/4 mile drive including getting material out of a gravel creek bed. 2) Mowing tall rough areas (brush hog) 3) Finish mowing up to 10 acres 4) To help with cutting fire wood - splitting and hauling 5) To help with cutting trails through wooded hilly terrain. 6) Digging holes for fence and for planting trees. 7) Initial ground work for a medium sized garden After some research, I concluded that I needed a 4WD tractor in the 30 to 35 HP range, with a hydro transmission and a front end loader. Large enough to do some serious work and small enough to maneuver between trees and other obstacles. I also wanted to be able to add a small backhoe in the future. A mid PTO would be a plus and I needed to be able to have it serviced within a reasonable distance. I came across a deal on a 4WD 35HP tractor that I couldn't pass up, a JD 4410. It's a 2002 with just 400 hours on it. It has a front end loader (430) and came with several 3 point implements, a box blade, a regular blade, a brush hog, a 50 gallon sprayer, a potato spade, a rear platform (homemade) and a post hole digger. I bought some forks that attach to the front bucket to move brush and logs around. I looked at a used Kubota and the owner said that the forks were the best thing he ever bought for his tractor. Before making the purchase, I looked at a lot of ads on the internet to get a feel for the price range of the tractor and checked with my credit union to see how much they would loan against a 2002 4410 JD. With that information, I checked the local tractor sales establishments for used offerings and listened to their sales pitch for a new tractor. I also looked at a few local offering from Craigslist. While visiting a JD/Kubota dealer, they had a 2002 4410 just like the one I ended up buying and wanted the same price for it as they did a new Kubota 3200. I asked them if they were flexible on the price of the 4410, they were not. I then found the mechanic that had serviced the tractor in the past, he recommended the tractor by saying that he would buy it if he had the money. Service records showed regular maintenance and no serious problems. I also checked with my insurance agent and found that the tractor was covered by my homeowner's policy. With this information I began negotiations with the seller to buy the tractor. After buying the tractor, I replaced the seat and fixed a crack in the hood. I also bought a quick hitch from Harbor Freight and a top hitch adapter bracket from Agri-supply that allowed me to use the quick hitch with implements that did not work with the top hook (you are unable to bring a hook up from under the top pin). I also bought the forks mentioned earlier and some chains off of EBay. I took the tractor to the local John Deere dealer and had them check it over from head to toe. They replaced the engine oil and installed new hydraulic, oil, fuel and outer air filters. I'm confident that I have tractor that will fit my needs. I have not used the tractor to any degree and cannot report on how well it performs. Perhaps at a later date I will do so.
Pros: The right size and in good condition.

JD 4410 HST

I purchased this MFWD compact used in 2009 I have added nearly 300 hours to the meter since. When I first purchased the tractor it had been used for snow clearing and pasture mowing. It came with a 430 Loader with bucket and forks. A 48 Backhoe, a 59" front mount snowblower and a Bush hog. After some initial learning curve when driving a HST. Lift you foot off the accelerator when engine bogs down on up hills to keep up the forward speed. Another time I had the backhoe seat catch on the drivers seat preventing the opperator switch from functioning.
Pros: HST transmission is a breeze to learn on. Loader and snow blower work is easy.
Cons: 15 Gal oof hydraulic fluid is a pain to warm up on cold winter mornings. Engine starts with difficulty but everything is slow and sluggish until hydraulic fluid warms.

4410 never disappoints

I use the tractor for mowing 4 flat acres of lawn. It has been a good experience. In the winter I use it to remove snow with the front end loader. The compact size is really a plus moving snow in a limited size driveway. I also clear trails with the 5M rotary cutter(brush hog). I have found that any tree or brush that the front end loader can push down the cutter can cut. I also have the 5 foot rototiller, rear mount hole digger, small Tractor Supply rake and the 6 ft mid mount. I have the Hydo model with cruise control, max speed , and a Quick connect.
Pros: Service is always prompt.. Size. EZ removal of implements

I got a 4n1 bucket with my JD 4410. What a tool. I'm able to do so much more with it. I've picked up 18" logs that are 20 feet in length to move them. The bucket is very versatile in digging and excavating and in spreading gravel. I wouldn't have a tractor without a 4n1.
