301A John Deere
Strong Tractor
Model Year: 0

I love my Deere, it had been worked hard prior to my purchase. Having a small place (3 acres), it has had it fairly easy here. It has been quite a chase to stay up with the hydraulic leaks (too cheap to replace all the hoses at once). The scraper box has a issue when it come to try to do a fine grade with it, will have to fix that one day. The biggest complaint I would have would be the steering, 3/4 turn in the wheel to start a turn. Makes it real interesting to try to rad it any where, but has little effect here at home. The best things I can say is it starts easy and runs strong, and it's paid for.

Pros: Power, ease of operation.
Cons: Steering.

301A John Deere
John Deere 301A Utility Tractor
Model Year: 1978

I have only owned well used pre-owned tractors in my life. Because my tractor is used more for hobby farming, and general property maintenance, I can't spend the big money for a late model unit. Back in 96 I was looking for a 30-40 horse utility tractor with power steering. Of all the models and colors I looked at the BEST VALUE seemed to be a Deere in the construction colors. The color of the paint reduces the price 20-30 percent. The 301a has super strong hydraulics thanks to a oversized front pump designed for loader or backhoe work. All the 301s and 302s had power steering, many had differential locks, short powerful, reliable units.

Pros: Strong hydraulics, power steering, comfortable, hard to break.
Cons: Genuine parts are expensive, gas units are thirsty.
