260A International Harvester
My IH 260A
Model Year: 1982

I bought it at an auction with a blown engine. It belonged to a city and somebody had been running it without an air cleaner element. The rings were worn out and it blew No. 4 piston. I replaced the one piston, rings etc. The tractor is a backhoe loader and I use it in some rugged, rocky, land which is extremely rough on equipment. Through the years I have blown all the hydraulic hoses at least once or twice. I have rebuilt all the cylinders at least one time. I have never had any more internal problems with the engine again. It is now sitting with couple of teeth broken off in the transmission. I will tear it down within the next couple of weeks and I hope I can find the parts to fix it. It has been a real workhorse.

Pros: Plenty of power, stingy on diesel.
Cons: I've never liked the differential lock pedal. I would rather have a lever I could lock it in.
