My Last Craftsman
by Doug Patrick
Model year: 0Date Purchased: 2011-04-15Number of Hours:
"I haven't had a really good relationship with this mower. Every time I put a load or drag on it, such as pulling an aerator or de-thatcher, the drive belt slips - and eventually stops pulling the tractor altogether (even without a load). Putting on a new belt fixes the problem - until the next time I need to pull something. I currently have idlers on order and will try replacing them. I'm not sure that they should be a problem with only 220 hours on the tractor, but I need my tractor to run, so here goes.
I am having trouble with ethanol gas; I have used "Mechanic in a Bottle" and "Gumout", with some success. I use only new gas, and haven't left old gas in it over the winter. Right now, it takes 5 or 6 starts before it continually runs. I am not mechanically inclined enough to take the carburetor apart, and during the summer - when a body needs his mower - repair centers want to keep it for 2 weeks because of all the other suckers out there who bought crummy mowers.
I take very good care of my mowers, change the oil every 50 hours, keep an eye on the air filters, new plugs every year. This mower is not rewarding me for my TLC."
