yanmar 1610
Hello out there,
I am a new owner of a "refurbished" yanmar 1610 two wheel drive. I would like to know if anyone else owns one of these and how the machine performs for them. I would also like to know what type of fluids/oils you prefer. Thanks in advance to all,
coonbilly

First, congratulations on your new tractor! Welcome to the best source of information and help for Yanmar tractors.

The YM1610 and 4wd version YM1610D are very good tractors, and probably an ideal size for working around 2-10 acres. I have never owned one, but would like to have one with a loader (my 1301D is a bit small for loader work and doesn't have the power-shift tranny).

Fluids:
Engine Oil: Diesel rated multi-weight (I use Shell Rotella T 15W40 from Wal-Mart at around $6.25/gal)
Coolant: Standard anti-freeze mixed at 50/50 with distilled water
Hydraulic/Transmission Fluid: JD303 or equivalent hy-trans oil
Front Axle (4wd only): 80-90 wt gear oil

Filters:
Air: NAPA 6270
Oil: NAPA 1064 or 1334
Fuel: NAPA 3262

I hope this helps.

I just bought a 1610D and love it, gbitky is right, good tractor for 2-10 acres - loader is good but make sure you don't overweight the bucket, counter it with a box scrapper or weights-changed my hydraulic fluids (12.7+ qrts) and oil. Depending on your temp range use 5-30 or if high temp use 30wt. Did did some research, the following are some Yanmar 1610/1019D oil filter crossovers: NAPA 91334, Mobil M1104, K&N 1004 and Fram PH3593A. Hope helps.

Welcome to TBN. The 1610 is one size powershift larger than my 1510. I am sure that you will love the way that it works. It is a very nice machine and you will get many hours of use out of it. Most people just use a good brand of diesel oil 15w-40. When our little tractors were made they did not have the multigrades like they do now. The 15w-40 has pretty much become the standard throughout the industry in trucks and tractors.

There are some people [Tractor Ernie for one] who use Dextron ATF in the transmission. I switched to that because of the winter temps have given me some problems. I think that the ATF will be better. We will see next winter. I believe that it "feels" a bit smoother on the shifts.

Enjoy yourself on the site and you will find lots of information that will make your "tractoring" a more productive and pleasurable experience.

Mike
