Just sold my king kutter brush hog. After looking at many rotary cutters/brush hogs,(midwest, walco, befco, bush hog,and a few others.I finally think I will purchase a woods brush bull 48.I have a massey ferg,1240 sub-compact 4X4 about 28hp.I wanted to get the 5 ft but I dont think my tractor will handle it.Thanks for any input.coobie. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The MF 1240 is a compact, not a sub. It should handle a 5' just fine. IMO, I wouldn't run a 5' on anything smaller than a 1240, but many do.

I have a Woods BB60c and have put about 200 hours on it. I've been pretty happy so far. now it's not a medium duty but for a standard it's pretty decent. mine has some battle scars from being a little thin on the sides and me ordering it to do certain jobs.
But overall i would have to rate it as pretty tough for it's class.

I run a BB60 on my TC25D and it works fine.

I agree with the others. I had a 5 foot brushcutter behind my Massey 1233 and the tractor did well with it. The 1240 has a few more HP and should do well with the WOODS light duty 5 foot rotary cutter. WOODS makes good rotary cutters. I had the 4 foot brushbull cutter with my Kubota B2410 (24 HP) and liked the way it cut.

I had a BB60 (medium duty) and now have a BB72 (medium duty) and was/am very happy with both.

I pulled the BB60 with a TC29, and it was about minimum power for it. I had to keep the blade sharp and go pretty slow in the heavy stuff. I still think it will mow faster than a 48" cutter. Just don't let the weeds get too far ahead of you.

The BB60 is a "tweener" size. It has the same gearbox as the BB72, and is rated for 55hp. It should be just about bullet proof on a 28hp tractor.

( Actually the BB60 is the standard duty model.. BB600 (1000+ lbs)is the medium duty.. BB6000 is the heavy duty.

I have the BB600.. even though it says medium duty.. it looks heavy duty to me.. has a 120hp gear box.. 5 year warrenty.

Yea, I stand corrected on that. The Woods cutters are conservitavely rated. My "standard duty" is built like a tank.

"The Woods cutters are conservitavely rated"

I def. agree.. when I first got my new cutter.. I thought they must have delivered the wrong one.. the Brush Bulls seem to be one of the few overbuilt implements I've seen.. I think my tractor will wear out before this implement will.
