I'm sure it's normal, but I'm asking how is this accomplished. Surely there isn't a syncronizer ring is there? I can be moving and shift in and out very easily. Why is this?

It should as long as there isn't a load on the gears. I know some don't even when there is no load on the gears.

Yeah if the gears are unloaded just the weight of my finger will slide the shifter. But if the gears aren't unloaded, forget it.

You’re positive the front tires are actually pulling when in 4WD right?

Hydraulic operated multiplate clutch is a very common way to engage 4WD on tractors, often autoengages when braking so you have front brakes, but I don't know if you have it on a MX5200.

Mine is a rocker switch on the dash, so yeah it is pretty easy. Same as the PTO.

Yeah it’s working, I just don’t know how and I figured someone would on here.

I would say, you just know your tractor well and can feel exactly when to engage/disengage the 4WD without forcing or grinding things.

Most tractors will do it easily, it's just a matter of learning the tractor, knowing how things work and go it on the right timing. Yes, when new, it tends to be stiffer and then loosen up as it ages. I engage mine on the move all the time without any effort at all. To disengage, it does require me to back up a little bit though.

As the first MX guy to respond...Mine doesn't engage smoothly at all. Sometimes j have to turn the steering wheel left right to get the gears to mesh. Not a big deal. I'm pretty sure there are no synchros.

My Grand L 40-series goes into 4wd pretty easy most of the time. Once in a while I need to blip the pedal a little forward or back and it slides right in. Coming back out is the issue. It does not like going back into 2wd and that is often a struggle with driving a little both ways, turning the wheel and standing on my head and patting my stomach while applying a bit of pressure to the lever until it slides back out of 4wd. Not exactly the same model but I think the MXs are related to the L's pretty closely, as best I can tell.
