What's Your Fall Harvest?

Even though we have a short growing season up here in northern Maine, the Lord has blessed us with a bounty of produce. We have 100 lb. potatoes, numerous squash(buttercup & acorn), pumpkins, tomatoes(canned & some still ripening inside),beets, onions, beans, peppers, swiss chard, and more. Deer season starts Saturday,so praying God will send one our way. Will be planting garlic soon.

That's some big potatoes!

Jerusalem artichokes, sunflowers, potatoes, cabbage and firewood. We'll eat the firewood if the rest runs out. :)

Gotta admire a man who is capable enough to go almost ten months of the year without making a mistake...I begin making them the second I get out of bed, every single day.

We have kale, beans, peas, zuk and cukes, sunchokes, potatoes, canned a lot of jam(blackberry, strawberry, blueberry), hops,
finally started getting some gensing seed from my oldest plant, pumpkins (jack be littles for my "little ones" birthday), no apples but we bought a few bushles from a farm near us. And have some hard cider bubbling away atm.

I tried those one year. I bought a whole jar of seeds. They didn't sprout. I think there was too much salt on them.

I made that mistake also. You really need Planters salt free dry roasted for best results. They call them Planter's for a reason.:D:D

   Yes, we all know that salt seriously degrades the soil used for crop production....on another topic, I sometimes wonder why people take the time and expense to grow things like peanuts and potatoes for personal consumption, when I was a kid I recall my mom growing potatoes in her home garden and they were so common and cheap to buy at a store, even today while I could grow potatoes at home, I might go through 30-35 pounds a year at the very most so to me it's not worth the headache to grow them.

But to those who do grow potatoes and peanuts at home...do they taste that much better than what you can buy at a store?
