1969 Ford 2000 Dad bought new was the first one I drove by myself. I was 6 years old. I had to pull up on the steering wheel to add body weight to be able to depress the clutch.

The first tractor I ever drove is the one I have now... the 4105.

Before I bought, I did sit on one... the salesman drove me out to one that belonged to a maintenance company as he didn't have one on the lot, however we could only flash-it-up and move the FEL.

The day that the tractor (an HST) was delivered, at the end of my driveway by a transport company, I hopped up and fired it up and put it into high 'gear'! And slowly creeped up my driveway... even though I had the pedal-to-the-metal. I then noticed this lever with a turtle/rabbit symbol! I made a lot better time then and I'm glad that no one was around to witness that. :)

That night I read my Owner Manual front-to-back. Twice.

Dad's first tractor was a McCormick Deering 10-20, I got to ride with him as he plowed, can still remember how it tickeled my bare feet and the sound of the growling gears. He traded for a Farmall Regular, steel steering wheel that would break your hand if you didn't hold just right. Traded that for a JD B and that was the first one I got to drive, many hours plowing and discing and 2 row cultivator, still had it when I moved to town in '62.

An early 1950's JD 40 with a sickle mower.
My BIL showed me how to run the tractor, about 10 minutes of instruction.
I was in 400 acres of pasture, cutting the weeds that the cattle would not eat.

I ran that tractor for 6 days, over 8 hours per day,,
I was about 12 years old, my BIL and everyone else on the farm was shocked I stuck with the work so long.

Would that be considered child abuse today??

The next year, I ran the JD 820 pulling a 4-16's plow,, in wheat land.

Mine was a ford 2n. I remember I had to jump on the clutch to get it down. Not enough lead in the a##. that was in the late 40's I was 7 or 8 years old.
