Just having fun with the saw in the woods. I expected this /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif, so I left it to the laws of nature.
The tree is in a creek bed. So how did I cut it?

Hey, Look close at the cut. Is that not a straight line or what?
Wonder how talented I am? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

-Mike Z. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I'll let you all keep guessing for a few more hours.

Mike, the tree was down possibly by the wind, you cut the top and with help of your powerful tractor set it back up. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Looks like an aspen tree, and possibly you did what I have done before --- cut the top out for un-restricted 360° shot at a deer with a bow from a tree stand.

You may well get the "that's dangerous" commentors with a cut that high and no escape route when felling the top.

Or you cut it off when it was laying down on the ground (wind-blown or pushed over), and then stood it back up straight (either from its own stress relief, or with help) to take the 'picture'.

I don't make much sense from the title, so maybe this is a long ways from what you really did. Curious here. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think it's a beech - aspens don't grow in Virginia...

I agree with you - it's in a stream bed, so the water from the massive amounts of rain we have had this year exposed the roots, pushed/fell over, cut it, propped it back up.

Mark

Oh!!!! Or it was on the ground and cutting the top off relieved enough weight so that the roots pulled it back upright!!!!???

I go for the tractor and you in the front end loader.
