Totally agree. I put those in the same category as the perfume or aftershave infused people that is stronger than a freshly sprayed skunk. I would rather smell skunk than be around people that wear that crap..
Or scented trash bags that smell worse than the garbage.

I don't mind scented candles, but agree with you on perfume/cologne/aftershave.

What a peeve!
My Mother passed recently at 98, I'm the Executor and sole heir. The peeve is vultures!!!
Some family, lots of "friends" & acquaintances, people I don't even know and it's: (take your pick):
1) I was promised this or that. (Not true)
2) I remember she (my Mom) had this...may I have it?
3) I was telling 'John Doe' about something she had & he wants it!
4) What are you going to do with (x,y,z)?
On & on about everything she had, now mine.
I've never thought of saying that to anyone who passed or their relative(s). To me that's really deplorable.
Who does that?!?!?

When my dad died, same situation.

I let relatives pick what they wanted, if for no other reason because as much as I liked the antique furniture, chandeliers, paintings and such, the European antiques (largely from my grand parents) wouldn't fit in or match my house in the USA.

All good, until one cousin told me to ship the things she wanted from England to where she lived, in Sweden, at my expense.

I had a 20' container of things shipped to me, she got nothing.

Everything was actually put in my name many years ago, so there wasn't an inheritance, etc.
A neighbor & friend collects blown glass birds and I gave her some I found. If I know of something someone would like I'll give it, but to ask at the funeral??? Or feel somehow entitled?

I don't mean this the way it may sound, but at least your mother has passed. I have very limited family and the vultures are circling me like they are entitled.
The niece stopped talking to me for years because I didn't buy her a house. I said I would help. She took it as buy.
Sister has demands. She's 14 years older than me.
I won't even mention nephew.
Like were do people get these expectations of entitlement.
So I continue to spend "their" inheritance and have as good a time as possible according to health.
I hope so, but I'm pretty healthy.
Boy will they be surprised when the will is read.
Think along the lines of Gran Torino.
Condolences on the loss of your mother. No matter how old either of you are/were it's a relationship that can never be replaced.

My Father passed away several years ago and my brother and I are the only siblings out of nine still living in the area. Our biggest problem was finding homes for items that dad had accumulated over the years. My brother doesn't have much property so he didn't want to deal with many items. I wound up taking most of the misc. tools and other items that were in the barn. Many of these things should have probably been pitched but I thought maybe some of the great grandkids might be interested in a few years. Highly doubtful since they don't seem to have an interest unless it's on a cell phone. I did wind up with an Indiana 1913 license plate, the first year license plates were used in IN, platform scales and wheelbarrow from around 1910. I may have to learn how to use FB Marketplace some day. In the meantime they're just taking space in my barn.

That's more along the lines of what my sisters and I ran into when dealing with our mother's estate (father had been gone for 20+ years at that point). A bunch of stuff that was not "valuable", but too nice to dumpster, but none of us wanted it. My niece ended up taking a bunch of it, I think primarily just so it didn't get tossed. We had an estate/yardsale at practically giveaway prices just to get rid it. None of us really wanted the hassle of trying to sell it on CL or thru some consignment place.
Vultures were not a problem.
