what is non-detergent oil

Rat,
Thanks, hopefully we will both be a lot older when that happens /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I don't think we would see many 8n's and Farmall A's still going if they had been hydro trannys though.

Thank goodness the old tractors did not have hydro's, just the power loss would be significant. The technology has changed so much adding far better and precise machining and metalurgy as well as quality control to produce as nearly identical componets as possible. I have the schematic of a Kubota HST for my tractor. They are a rather large and heavy chunk of cast iron. Suprisingly simple inside.

Our twenty-something year old Massey Ferguson Hydro is still working as well as the day we purchased it new, no problems as long as you change the oil and filters properly and use good oil and filters.

Simple isn't it? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

A helpful and easy to understand answer, as usual from the Junkman. I appreciate the response and thank you. The engine has been well maintained and was rebuilt 5 or 6 years ago. I think I will chnge over and after a few hours drain and change again possibly getting rid of any gunk. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have to decide within next week on what oil to put in. I was hoping to have more debate on my issue of putting it in my hydrostatic drive as hydraulic oil. I am going by only 2 people that said to use non detergent and that was 5020 or Daryl who said it first with no explanation why, and soundguy who agreed with him with no explanation why and I am banking on those guys are knowing what they are talking about and if anyone else has an opinion on what type of 30 weight oil to use in my case please jump in.

I guess you can safely assume that "we don't know" I suggest you consider experimenting a little. Non detergent has fine lubricating ability, it just does not include Tide to spruce things up.

I got to thinking and i have another question on this, When i drain out the old oil, Im sure there will plenty of hy-tran left behind in cylinders and power steering and in hoses and i wont get it all for sure so will there be a compalabilty issue with hy-tran hydraulic oil and 30wND? maybe it wont mix or it may jell up or something?

( quote]All the big 60 gallon air compressors at TSC, lowes, and HD are using nd oil as pump oil.. would that still be 'hobby' to you? )

Size has nothing to do with it in this application. Yes they are still in the league to me. Everything is a hobby in general. They all do the same thing here. So are big and some are small.

That's a hokey answer and you know it. Passing somehting off as 'hobby' just because 'everything in general is a hobby'.

Must be too many 'silver spoon' people around here...

everythings a hobby? I can't even finish this post.. what a complete load... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
