Tractor
JD 4300 MFWD
On another thread someone mentioned that the B2710 is about 1800 lbs, and 27 hp. I got to thinking.. my JD 4300 is about the same horsepower but weighs over 1000 lbs more. These figures (if correct.. I'm not sure about the B2710) are for the bare tractor with no attachments.

Where is the extra weight of the JD coming from?

Checking the Kubota page doesn't suggest this is a sub-compact tractor.. and it looks roughly the size of the 4300. Maybe looks are deceiving, especially in pictures?

Just curious..

Thanks,
Bob

Bob, I made this same observation when I got my 790. It's about 2100 lbs and 30 hp. Substantially less weight than your 4300. If you put them side by side you'll understand. Your 4300 is quite a bit bigger and more "substantial" than my trusty little 790. That extra beef allows you to run a heavier duty loader (compare the 420/430 to my 70) and backhoe (47/48 to the #7 that I want). Kind of the difference between a Ford Super Duty pickup and a Ranger.

How do you like your tractor? If I had the money when I got my 790 I would have gone with a 4300 /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Ah, so this is a good thing. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Heavier duty, eh?

I just love it so far. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten as much seat time as I'd like, between no snow, root canal, etc. /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif But I'm more than happy with it! Now I'm having fun wiring up a special work light arrangement. Plug and play lights.. if I can only get my hands on a digital camera soon I'll post some pictures.

Thanks for the reply!

I've been watching your endeavors on that thread as well. I stuck a JD rear work light on mine and plugged right into the harness under the seat. I haven't done too much work after dark yet so it's too early to tell if I'll have to tap into your expertise for more lights. Not sure who's leading the lighting challenge, you or Mark C. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Rob,

Trust me, Mark is! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif I'm still looking at the thing and scratching my head! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

But I think it will be cool if/when I can figure out a way to get some 12V cigarette-type sockets mounted somewhere in a semi-clean fashion. I have a couple of magnet mount 55-watt flood lights for forward mount, and a couple of really neat strobe lights.. all of which can mount on top of the ROPS, as needed, and just need to figure out the place to mount the power sockets. Maybe I won't go with cigarette sockets, but something else. Not sure yet. But being able to select the light for the job, and just plug it in and stick it to the top of the ROPS sounds too enticing to pass up! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Will keep you all posted as I progress in my mad scheme.

Without going into the details, the real world weight of a B2710, field ready with R4 tires and FEL is 2480lbs. I calculated from Kubota numbers, that it should weigh 3080lbs... with tractor, fuel, R4 tires, seat, ROPS, loader, bucket, etc... with an estimate on the fuel (all other numbers published).

Bob,
I bought the JD rear work lights in addition to the lights I installed on my canopy, but the JD lights really light up the area in an ideal way. When you are using your tractor after night, you have a great view of I.E. the blade and any other attatchments behind the tractor.A person can work the back blade and really see the detail of what you are doing.

Yeah, I have them too.. those things are bright!

Now, since I'll be taking some road trips to a friend's farm, around 4 miles, I want a good flashing amber of some kind on top of the ROPS, and while I'm at it figure I'll wire up a way to swap out the flashing top light with various kinds of front flood lights. I'm most of the way there.. just struggling with details about where to mount the 12V sockets, or perhaps some other type of socket arrangement. It'll come, just needs some time to simmer on the back cortex. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
