Wasn't sure where to post this so I tried here.

I hesitate to post this because it's not my stuff so I won't post particulars. My neighbor is not always at home, in fact seldom is. It's not a primary home. He lost the house in a brush fire nearly a year ago, but still had lots of equipment in the barn.

Two days ago I noticed a door half open, so I got in touch with him and no one was supposed to be there, so I went up to take a look. His 40hp Kubota, and 2018 Polaris Razor are gone with lots of evidence that is was stolen.

They had come in the night before apparently with a flatbed and loaded them up and hauled them off. That's around $60K worth of equipment. The Polaris had about 2hrs on it.

Now keep in mind this is NOT a place visible from the road, nor easy to get to, and no one would know what was in the barn unless they had been there before as a worker etc.

This property sits behind heavy iron gates that are on automatic controls, that the thieves bypassed (won't say how).

Sheriff's fingerprinted so hopefully will gain some ground there.

They also told us they busted a gang of illegals from Guatemala some months back that were from Bakersfield, and operating in our county (very rural and farm/ranch oriented) but were caught in LA. These guys were pure pro's at what they did. Now there is a new gang operating out of LA. I won't get political, but I hope a certain southern building project gets done REAL soon.

Guys take down your serial numbers, pictures, and add a security system, with cameras that cannot be easily reached. My poor neighbor has had some real bad times here, and he's rethinking "country life". Sadly.

My 2 cents is an inexpensive alarm system in simply motion detectors and loud siren.
Most thieves won't stick around once that goes off, and they don't know what else (cameras) is there.

I think you already did. ;)

Glad you're there to help your neighbor. Sounds like he's going through a very rough patch.

My sister in Florida had a Kubota and gator stolen from her barn, never recovered, the police said they are stealing machines and sending them to other country's. She now has two German Shepherds to keep an eye on things.

It amazes me how some live, thinking this sort of thing is OK.

I won't get political either but the deterrent system I have employed has had 100% success for 36+ years.

Its a combination to things that all work together to keep my property and all that is on it secure. First - my location is quite remote and thereby VERY FEW ever come this way in the first place. I have a very long driveway which is the ONLY way in or out of the property. Beyond the NO TRESPASSING sign on the outer gate - there is a sign warning what will happen to those who come this way with less that glad tidings. The inner gate has a repeat of the warning sign on it. I have discussed this situation with both the state and county police and while they do not like this type of action - both agree - it is legal and I am within my rights to do handle trespass in this manner. This discussion with LEO has been a God send - the "word" has spread, far and wide, that I WILL DEFEND my property with lethal force, if necessary, and with the knowledge of LEO.

It has been more than 20 years - YES, MORE than 20 years - since a person whom I do not know has appeared in my yard.

I have few friends - the few I have are very good friends - - that is the way I like it. My property and all that is here is paramount in my life and shall always be that way.

People who wish to visit have always found a way to contact me first and ASK if they may come and visit. I find surprise as best used at birthday parties and the like.

Well, if it's anything like here, the best answer is " I hope you have insurance"..Very few give a ratsazz about your property. You are just supposed to call the police so that the insurance people can check off that a police report was filed.
