I am in the marked for a CUT and was VERY close to purchasing a new one this week. My dad found a guy wanting to sell a JD 4300. It is a 2001 or 2002, 4WD, Hydro, 554 hrs. Suppose to look like new. I talked to the guy last night and he is waning to upgrade to a 5000 series JD. He priced me the tractor for $9000 but I think it can be bought for $8500 or so. If this tractor is what he says it is, Is that a good deal? I am going tonight to look at the tractor and need some help.
1. What are the known issues with the 4300 tractors and what should I look for? I know the battery acid issue is a problem and I will check. Any others?
2. Will the Year be on the tractor anywhere?
3. If I get the serial number can I call a dealer and see if there are any recals on the tractor. The ones I have read here are the rear gear, front axle, and battery. Are these CUTs like cars in that you do not have to be the original owner to get recall work completed.
4. I don't know if there are any service records with the tractor or not. If there are not, what would you suggest doing if I buy the tractor? Tranny fluid and filter, engine oil, and a good greasing is what I am thinking? What is required at the 500 hr service and how much would this cost if I did it myself?
5. One last question: It has Ag tires and I would want R4 for mowing duty. How much should I have to pay for a set of R4's and to get them loaded?
Thanks for the help and any replies before this afternoon would be greatly appreciated...
