OK so how about a few comments from the trailer experts here on how I am tying down my B2920 to my trailer.

I am not looking for the Chain / Binders vs Strapping arguments but more about where on the tractor I am tying to (or should be tying to).

I am having a devil of a time finding an area to clamp to in the back. As you can see I am looping (or should I say "nesting") a chain in the BH wells and using the holes in the DrawBar with the hooks of strapping. Can anyone give me any idea how can I solidly can tie down the rear?

As for the front - there are D Rings right under the front frame plate so I just loop the ratchet binders without the need of chain. In one pic you will see I trailered the tractor with my cultivator / hiller implement so I strapped over the cultivator bar since the webbing would have been cut like a knife through butter from the hiller discs. I did use heavy padding between the bar and the nylon web of the strap. I also tie down the loader with the strap as well.

Thanks in advance.

If you're using straps I loop it over the Rops and work it down as low as it will go.

What you are doing looks secure enough. The backhoe hooks are fine...Those chains are not likely to pop out of those hooks.

I installed a large shackle thru my draw bar. A 3/4 shacke and then 2 1" shackles for the chains to run thru...

I have seen hooks or D rings welded on the rear for chains, but your BH hooks are acting as the same..

If I was just driving around I would probably feel OK with the way you have it strapped down, I don't think I would trust it in an accident though. If you ran your truck into a wall, would you be 100% sure that your tractor will stay put?

It would be fine,

There is enough chain let alone the straps also

The only other place might be on the inside of each rear tire over the axle. It might be a pain to attach but you know the machine would never go anywhere!

If I ran my truckinto a wall, I don't care if the tractor moves...I got bigger issues..

Thanks all - you really have given me something to think about.

Firefighter Kubota,

I like the "Shackle" approch however can you clarify for me that you place the large shackle in the drawbar hole then slip to smaller ones threw it and you place two seperate chains through each one tying off on either side of the trailer. Did I get this right?

Also, whats the difference between a Shackle and a Clevis? Is it that one uses a screw and the other a pin?

Thanks,

~jim

Hi Jim,

I have 3/4 shackle thru the draw bar permantly, (i always leave it in) I think I had to bore out the draw bar a touch so the pin would fit...

Then toss on 2 more shackles thru the one mounted already 3/4 or 1" with your chains and you are in great shape.
You CAN fit one chain thru 5/16 (not 3/8) thru the shackle on the draw bar but can get the second chain thur UNLESS you remove the shackle each time and run both chains thru before connecting to the draw bar.

There are a few ways to skin this cat. I like leaving the shackle in place so I always have it for pulling stuff with chains etc..or pulling the tractor out

Pretty much the same...clevis / shackle, pin vs threads...where ever you got your chains should have them...

This makes a great rear tie down area, chains or staps...
Good luck
