Insurance Tractor Insurance

I looked but didn't see an answer to my situation and was wondering what others have done.

My tractor is not located on the property with my residence. So my insurance company (American Express) will not insure it, not even with a rider. Does anyone have a separate policy for just your tractor? If so who is it through?

I was really surprised when I found out they wouldn't insure it, and have phoned several other insurance companies, all of which give me the same answer, "no". I must be checking in the wrong places. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I had the exact same experience. Allstate told me it was insured as long as it was on my land. If it left it was not. I have 2 properties so that did not work. Even in transport it was not covered. I finally got insurance through New Holland when I financed it. That expires when it's paid off but from what I am told I can continue the policy.

I believe Allstate would have insured it as part of a contractor's insurance policy which I did not want as this is for my own use.

My tractor is located at my building site which is a good distance from where I live. State Farm wrote me a policy for the value of the tractor and FEL($10,500) which covers everything including turn overs, tree falling on it, etc. for $156 a year. The only requirement is that it be locked up. I have it in an old grainery that cannot be locked so I chain it to one of the main building supports which satisfied that requirement - Lewis

Joined my County Farm Bureau for $35 a year and then Farm Bureau Insurance wrote $13,250 coverage for $53 a year. No liability, but covers anything else except the usual terrorists, nuclear wars, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions, I have not heard of any local Farm Bureau, but I will do a search.

I cant' remember if I tried State Farm or not, but I will check with them.

The original owner of the tractor did Finance it through New Holland and did have insurance on it, the physical damage insurance was listed at $722, but I don't know if that was a one time payment for the life of the loan, which was 4-years

Got all my farm machinery and tractors insured with State Farm. My agent used a marine policy. Tractors run $66 per year. None of my tractors are on my land. I do work the farm and own land close by.

I just insured my tractor through State Farm. 30K tractor cost $400/yr and it must be secured. It is called in-land marine and goes under misc. equipment. Contractor and heavy machinery cost much more... Tractors for ag use don't fall within this category (Construction type) unless your equipment is for hire.

Farm bureau (country companies) insured mine. They also have the house, boat, and car insurance as well. raised it about $200 for the tractor and loader per year.

Mine is insured through Allied Home owners policy. It does not have to be on my property, costs me about $80.00 per year. Has to be locked down and no key in it. When I move back to the farm it will be insured through Farm Bureau(Country Companies).

Thanks for all the inputs. I did some searching on the web and found my local Farm Bureau, which has insurance through Country Companies. I have found local agents for both Farm Bureau and State Farm, and have sent e-mails to both.

I was really surprised how many agents there were around me through the Farm Bureau and I didn't even know they existed. Power of the web and knowledgeable people.

Thanks for the help, I was asking the wrong Insurance companies and couldn't understand why they didn't want my money.
