Considering a toothbar (again), & was wondering if it could be modified to be pinned in place (like 3PH implements) instead of using bolts, so it could be quickly/ easily removed, or quickly/ easily folded back into the bucket?

Also, how easily are the teeth removed (on models with removable/ replacable teeth)? I was also wondering if I could remove all but say the two right-side teeth, & use those two teeth to pry small trees/ roots out?

What do ya'll think?

I think you'll have a problem finding pins that would hold it tight enough to the bucket (it would rattle around and move a bit if not tight enough).

I've never had to replace any of the teeth on my toothbar, but they're held in place by roll pins. It's just a matter of driving the pin out, installing the replacement tooth and re-installing the roll pin.

Pinning the bar to the bucket won't make it a tight connection without the clamping force of bolts and nuts. And unless you use a stout retainer on the pins such as a rollpin or spiral pin (which will be more unhandy than bolts & nuts), you are likely to lose the attaching pins regularly. Stick with the normal attaching bolts. You can remove the replaceable teeth, but if you get appreciable wear on the underlying shanks, the tooth pins will fail prematurely when you go back to using the pin on teeth.

Attaching and removing mine with its 2 big bolts doesn't take much time. Basically, I only use the toothbar if I want to do dirt work: not very often. It sits stored upright in the corner of the garage until I need it, about 1% of the time.

Usually pins are long and when plowing you could bend one and it might be hard to take of. Bolts can be just the right lenght . Good luck

My thinking was to cut the pins to exactly the right length & drill a new hole for the retainer.

Might not work well anyway. Prob best to stick with the normal mounting method.

Tks all ...

I think you would need some sort of cam action in the pin to keep the bar snug. something like they use on a FEL. But adding all that is not worth it IMO. Store a couple wrenches on the tractor to remove the bolted on bar when needed. Or you make the bolt heads keyed so you could remove the bar with a single wrench.
