Dr Ruth aside, the number of people dying in their 70s shocks me.

Our average life expectancy has gotten much better in the years since most of us were born, but still remains in the late-70's:

Digging deeper, I suspect you'll find infant and child mortality means that life expectancy for those passing age 18 is probably low-80's. That slight tail-down in the 2020's may be the effects of COVID, including all the indirect things that went with that.

What's perhaps more interesting, is that other recent studies have shown the increase in life expectancy is not just about reducing infant mortality, despite so many incorrect casual assertions to that. Life expectance at all ages has gone way up, in the last several decades.

And despite what people trying to sell you diet advice would have you believe, North America has the best historic and future predicted life expectancies. That crap about "Asian diet" and "those living in Asian countries live longer than Americans", is total BS, not backed at all by the data:

Even in that, I'm sure digging deeper will reveal discrepancies. Do those living in Japan have a better life expectancy than those in India or Burma? Probably.
