My wife doesn’t care for baseball, but is around when there are baseball conversations. She asked me how she can participate but not have to do any research.

I told her “whenever we are talking about the greatest hitters, runners, fielders, throwers or power of all time just say Willie Mays. You will never be wrong”!

It’s always worked for her.

Had a good buddy named Mick Wertz, his uncle was Vic Wertz--yep, the guy who hit the drive that Willie made the stupendous catch on.

Said his uncle never got over "the catch ",talked about it often. Vic had a terrific game that day, drove in two runs in the first with a triple and had two doubles in a 4-5 day at the plate. With two on in the 8th, that drive to center would have scored two and would have won the game since it took an extra inning for the Giants to win. Also, Vic would have been the first to go 5-5 in a World Series. Wertz had a solid 11 year career in the majors, driving in over 100 runs 5 times, but he finally acknowledged that Willie Mays making that catch gave him more notoriety than his own career.

I'll have to remember that! If you can give us one each for Football, Basketball, and UK soccer, that might help!

I follow zero sports, even the ones I enjoy playing. Just no interest in sitting and watching someone else play a sport on TV, or tracking who did what.

The woman I've been spending time with is on her way to Connecticut for 4 days to watch a golf tournament.
The good thing is that she didn't ask me to go with her.
