I couldn't agree more with you Bob. We have the same problems around our area. People keep feeding them and the population continues to expand beyond control. There were 15,000 auto accidents due to hitting deer in our state last year. The populations are really out of control.

We had 20 hunters out to our land this year and they took over a 100 head of deer. That's not even counting the 11 that I shot. You can't even tell that they were there. I still have at least 40 deer in my hay every night. It is so bad here they gave out unlimited tags for hunting!!

around here it is actually against the law to feed the deer. but i do know some folks that on occasion will throw out some apples and some corn to help. but never in the same spot or near anything i don't ( i mean u ) want chewed on. Deer can be invasive and not helpful to many folks. best to let nature take its course. just MHO

DocHeb - Went to the camp today to give them their weekly supply of vittles and Peek-a-Boo-Bambi almost ate out of the bucket - looking pretty healthy, but I'm a soft touch in the winter, so still like to feed them. (pic attached)

Hi Gary,

These deer feed on corn all during the summer and fall. They basically live on the farm behind me and are a real pest to the farmer. Yesterday he said that he feels bad about them starving. I laughed about that one. 18 deer were taken this year behind my house and the farm. It looks like the woods are still full of deer. My Holly bushes show the damage real well already and they just started on them. All winter the deer dig thru the snow to pick up leftover ears of corn in the fields. Right now it is real hard to get down to the ground level. I did buy a bag of cracked corn for them and will see about helping them out. I also think the farmer is going to put out some feed for them. I hate to see the coyotes get them if they start to starve to death. The farmer said he say a coyote trailing a deer the other day in one of the fields. I would have shot the coyote.

Bob, I know where your coming from. In your state I wouldn't feed a deer either. Ma. doesn't have a deer population problem except on the islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. That's where all the rich yuppies and animal lovers live. There the deer are full of ticks and are very plentiful.
