Although I won't officially be retired until 12/31/13, tonight will be the last shift I'll work. Started with the company on 10/19/81, working rotating shifts almost the entire time. I'm really tired from working shift work, hard to get quality sleep during the day. Over 32 years is good enough. 401K and company retirement means I'll be making about what I'm making now. I may work some part-time work in the training department but I'll be finished running a chemical plant. Had lots of good days but some really scary times. Glad it's nearly over. With land, cattle and antique trucks I'll have plenty to keep me busy. Can't wait to get started!

Congrats!! Can't wait until it's my time. Unfortunately I'm only 46. Got a few more years

Congratulations and good luck in your retirement. From talking with my retired friends, you soon will wonder how you ever had time to work.

Congratulations on your retirement!
I'm looking forward to that day also, but I'm at least 5 years away.
I'll bet your company will miss you if you were their lead operator.
Enjoy your retirement .

Congratulations !

Good to hear that you have plenty of projects lined up. After getting past the "catching up on missed sleep" stage, some people struggle with replacing the structure they had at work.

Enjoy your new schedule, esp. the normalized Circadian rhythm !

Congratulations on your retirement. It will probably take a little while to adjust after working all those years of rotating shifts, but I bet you will make it work.

Congratulations. Though some may disagree and that is their opinion and their right, give yourself a schedule of when to get up, when to do tasks. You can always "call off" work without regret, but you will find the schedule rewarding as well.

Fantastic! Enjoy. I hung up my keyboard last April. Have found tons to keep me busy, including 8 grand children scattered from North Carolina to Colorado. I know you will enjoy a more steady routine than the rotating swift work. Will raise my HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY coffee cup for you in the morning!

Congratulations on your retirement. I worked for 38 years for an electric utility co. The last 30 years I worked a rotating shift. 10 days on 4 days off. Then evenings..then nights..I retired in 1999. Enjoyed ever day since. :thumbsup:Have a great retirement

IMG_0993.jpgCongratulations! Never did much shift work except early in my 44 years but did have to put up with the..."no problem BUT..." phone calls nights weekends. Been out 3 years now-like you, time now for grandkids and toys including attached.

Enjoy!!

Shift work is not good for your body. I did all right until about 5 years ago and then really started getting tired of it. We work 12 hour shifts. People who work shift work understand how you feel. Generally cranky all the time. When I'm off I usually don't sleep past 6am. Hoping to lose weight and get back in shape. I'll be able to work out at the health club I belong to on a regular basis now. I can already feel the stress starting to ease off.

Red Horse, that's a nice Mack. Do you belong to the ATHS?
