I have a TC29 that I replaced the battery on and will not turn over now. My question is there a reset switch on this model? I cleaned the battery cable ends, all lights are bright and do not dim when you try to crank. IAlso all lever are in nuetral. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Harold

Hi Harold,

Welcome to TBN.

Have you checked all your fuses?

On my TC33D I need to have my parking brake set on, the rear and mid PTO's must not be engaged and the gear selector must be in one of the 2 neutral positions.

When you say "Try to crank" do you mean when you turn the key the engine does not turn over at all?

There is no reset switch that I am aware of.

On my TC29DA there is a small fuse box, under the hood, on the front, right side of the firewall. There is a 10 amp fuse in it that is for the starting circuit. Check it.

If the starter does nothing when you turn the key, it must be the safety/relay/ neutral circuit. If it's not the fuse, start bypassing all the safeties till you find the problem. Of course, this is after you have made sure you are in neutral, sitting on the seat, PTO, etc. If it's none of these normal safety things you can switch the relays around to see if one of those is bad. First find the relays and switch the starter one with a similar one next to it. They just unplug. You can also jump the starter directly by connecting the wires on the starter to each other. Touch the solenoid (small) wire to the battery cable terminal (big wire) on the starter motor. Do this with a pair of pliers or a screwdriver or a wire and just touch the two. if it cranks the starter is good. Then you can work backward to the real problem.

Sometimes it can be frustrating to get to the real problem.

Thank you for the "welcome and everyone's help. I have not checked the fuses but will do that tonight. I do not have an owner's manual so could you tell me the locations of any other fuses I should check? Thanks again for your help.

Also Tim Yes to your question about when I try to crank. The engine does not turn over as if there is no power to the starter. This makes bad fuses a good possibility.

I will also check the starter and sfety relays John.

thanks,
Harold

It does sound like it could be a fuse. I wonder if your new battery had a good charge. Like Raspy mentioned for his TC29, my TC33D also has the fuses in the same area on the engine side of the firewall. There is also a 30 amp fuse near the starter in a separate inline holder.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

No dimming of the lights when you try the starter means no additional load on the battery ie the starter is not trying to crank the engine. As Raspy said it is a fuse or safety switch/relay issue. Get an owner's manual so you will understand all the safety switches and get a wiring diagram to help you go through the possible problems. Then it is a matter of do I have powers where I should.

Also check under tractor at the rear there are a couple of bullet type wiring connectors that can come apart. My experence with those is, if they come apart while running it stays running till turned off then it won't restart.
