Some time ago I read a thread where posters were discussing the price of liquid propane...and especially the price for the Gas Grill propane tanks....I had been paying $20.00 & change for a tank that was only partially full....then I saw posters saying Tractor Supply was a lot less...I just filled two propane tanks for my gas grill at Tractor Supply...4.5 gallons in each ...so it was like 3 tanks since the others only filled it with 3 gal....so for 2 tanks....9 gallons it was $19.00 ...so I actually got the equivalent of 3 (3) gallon propane tanks for $19.00 -- and it would have cost $60.00 at other propane sellers...

So TBN and posters...thanks....and anyone who did not know about Tractor Supply ...and low propane prices , at least around here...now you do.

TSC has come to town! Grand opening is next week. Glad to see them here, as it brings a few supplies about 45 minutes closer to home. I've not purchased any of their 3pt gear, and I know there are some varied opinions about the quality but, my experiences with them for chemicals and a nice UTV mounted sprayer have all been positive.

RV places are also good places for filling tanks... glad you found a local place with good price.

Interesting on filling tanks, one of my daughters recently commented that they (she is married) went with charcoal barbeque because it was too expensive to exchange the propane tanks and they don't last very long. Funny thing, we had propane BBQs for 28 years and she was often in the vehicle over the years when the tanks were filled at the local gas station or rv place.. I think her husband and family had always exchanged and left tank turned on when not BBQ'ing so perhaps theirs did not last long. We always turn off the tank when not in use, we don't trust the BBQ valves..

We have several local propane suppliers here. They are always cheaper than the tank exchange program but a little less convenient as some aren't open on weekends, nights, etc.... Best to have two tanks and get one filled when it goes empty.

And yes, you are right about the helpfulness of TBN members. Top notch!

Bob,
Around here, and most everywhere, propane is sold by the pound weight, not the gallon.
If you weigh your empty propane tank, or partially full tank, before you have it refilled then you will know
how much you got by weighing it afterwords. The amount, and price per unit should show on your bill.

I don't think the propane exchange bottle deals, available in cages at many locations, is a good idea. You don't
know how much propane is in them, unless you weigh them, but furthermore, you really don't know what condition the tank and valve are in, even though they may pass some inspection? :2cents:

PR - these were my own tanks...Tractor supply fills them from their large Propane tank...I saw the gallon meter and it was 9 gallons for the two tanks , which is 4.5 gallons per tank....the exchange places give a lot less and other places give 3 gallons for $20+ I have seen them weigh it too...but you don't know about their thumb on the scale...Propane is a liquid - and the gallon gauge is checked by the state for accuracy...

Here's how it works.

I go to the same supplier that fills my home propane...Amerigas. it is 16.99 and they give me a punchcard so every 5th fill is free. Sometimes if I am paying a bill and the lady is in a good mood she doesn't charge me to fill 2 20 lb'ers.

It's nice to be recognized Bob. (actually, it might really have been me in regards to TSC and propane...sounds kind of familiar).

Just wondering, but dont they make them things where you can fill out of your large home tank?? Has anyone used them???

I have no experience. I like charcoal. Mostly for the taste and easier ability to get some dead apple or cherry (I have both on my property) and do some smokin:licking:

But I do have a 500 gallon home tank. If I did use Propane for BBQ, I'd look into using out of it somehow. Bulk tank delivery @ ~1.50/gallon is got to be cheaper than any small tank fill up.
