T2220 Cruise Control "Now Fixed

Ok I've read the posts and have the tractor torn apart.

Ours has never worked right, had the tractor in with a list of things to fix and forgot to put the cruise on the list.

So I had the tractor in our shop last week and adjusted the brake switch, hit the cruse switch and the magnet worked like it was supposed to. I tried it a couple times and it worked each time. Finished working on the tractor and went to hook up the mower, just for the heck of it hit the cruise while driving and it did not work.

So today I held the brake switch by hand and had the wife work the cruse....nothing. So I take the console sides off, I checked the continuity on the brake switch...checked ok, so I checked the switch out again moving the brake to make sure it works...ok the switch is working like it should.

So now I change out relays..no change, checked fuse (changed anyway), no change. Pulled the magnet and put 12 volts to it and it works great. So I check voltage at the pigtail going to the magnet...I'm only getting .08 volts to the magnet when trying to set the cruse control.

So if you can follow me so far what would you check now????

Not sure but I would check the wiring, sometimes it looks good on the outside but is bad on inside. Trace back to where you are getting 12 volts.

Ok looked at the parts on line last night and figured I had checked everything on the power side.

So I went out today and took all the grounds that I could find (2, one at the starter and one to the frame from the battery). Cleaned up everything and got rid of all the paint under the battery to frame.

Checked it out and it worked. So I start up the tractor to do one last check and it had stopped working again, so I re-cleaned all the grounds only and now it works great.

I was too direct looking only on the power side.

From a previous post: "I'm only getting .08 volts to the magnet when trying to set the cruse control."

Thumper, what concerns me is that if you had a bad ground circuit, you should have still read 12 volts to the magnet if your meter was grounded properly. However, if you read between the two wires going to the magnet and had no ground, your meter should have read 0.00 vdc since it would have been floating. The point I'm trying to make is that if you read voltage between the wires, it could have been a ground problem. But, if you read from the hot wire to a good chassis ground on the tractor and read 0.8 vdc, the problem was not ground related. Does this make sense?

Glad it's working now and hope it stays working.

Hey Jim,

I got out the tractor for 4 hours Friday night and we ran it for 5 hours yesterday, cruse worked perfectly both days, I'm glad I twisted my right ankle and needed that cruise a lot.

We've still got some gremlins we are chasing, our warning alarm unit is really weak, I went to unplug it and then whole gut part came out still attached to the wiring harness.
