I'd been so restrained. And not ventured too close to the creek with my shiny new toy, as I hand cleared the sides. But today, tired of doing it all by hand, I decided I'd been too conservative and was sure I could back in with no problem, and get some serious brush hogging done in minutes what would take me hours to do by hand. If I got in trouble I had four wheel drive and a bucket to help. The ground was even firm to walk on. Boy was I wrong.

I was up to the front axle and up to the right rear axle as well. Having to back up a 15 degree slope with the cutter unable to lift far enough really made it folly to try any more. Used a chain to get the load off the 3 point hitch arms so I could detach the cutter. After that, tried pulling the tractor out with my wife's four wheel drive SUV, but that was uttlerly hopeless. Two feet of mud encased both front wheels and most of the right rear wheel as well.

Hi

It is tough to give advice from a photo, but if you have the cutter off, you should be able to get out. Try working your way out with the bucket and diff. lock. Locking up both the back tires is sometimes enough to do the job.

Good luck

Took a tow truck to get it out, and even that was a little hairy. At one point as he dragged me out and I kept the wheels rotating to help, the tractor started to slide and lean over to the right. I remember noticing grimly that the tilt meter was pegged, but fought that instinct to jump and stayed put with the seatbelt clipped. Finally got it out. $50 seems cheap, seeing how deep it was. Driver said his two cables, one on each side of the draw bar plate, ensured that tractor couldn't roll. I'm not so sure.

Thanks, you'd think that would work. I had just read this same suggestion on TBN a day or so ago, so I tried and tried using the bucket, and had the diff lock on the whole time. No amount of curling forward or back could budge it. The tires weren't really touching ground anymore; the undercarriage was taking the weight. And another guy who has a Deere with a bucket stood by and gave me his ideas. Neither of us had any luck. Maybe there's something that might have worked, but we couldn't figure it out.

I noticed your 4120 has arm rests for the seat. Was that standard equipment on your tractor, or is it aftermarket? My 4520 does not have them.

The armrests are a Deere option. I had the dealer put them on when I bought the tractor. I highly recommend them. I think they were under $100.

Just reading somw posts and ran across this one. reading your bio, I noticed your interests included rc airplanes. There are quite a few guys on here who do this, myself included. What do you fly? JohnJ

John,

I built and fly a newbie plane, the Sig Kadet Senior. I like its super slow flying. I built a another wing for it and put flaperons on it. It's a hoot to drop it in parachute-like. But I'm only an occasional flyer, and not that great. But love to do it when I can find the time. What are you flying?

Sounds like fun. I love Biplanes I fly several different ones. I had a Cub with flaperons that was a real floater also. I have a lot of fun with my Lazy Bee, I also have a Kangke Cap232 that is pretty aerobatic that I enjoy. A friend just built twin Blue Tangos, high wing candy bombers, 85 inch wings, with gasoline G26"s powering them for the air shows this year.. It will be fun flying them together.. As with tractors and planes also, It seems you never have enough. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Great hobby when you have the time.. John
