I'm looking at a very nice stationary Yanmar TS105C water cooled single cylinder diesel which produces 9HP at 2200 rpm.
I cannot find any information other than it is possibly 70's vintage.
I called Yanmar and they have no info on it. It is made in Japan and not a Yanmar clone.
Does anyone have information pertaining to parts availability or durability?

I had a couple of YSM12's in a sailboat years ago. Horizontal piston, hand crank on both, built like the brick outhouse, rated 12 Hp for the first 1/2 Hr then rated 10 for after that. I might still have a manual around. I think that the whole boat moved around the piston.

We have rental boats used for recreational fishing in the lakes down by the sea that have the single cylinder Yannie motors in them (i will look closer next time to see model number- they are old though, 60s vintage) which have the crank handle start. Needs a good quick turn and put-put-put away they go, nice kick back too..... My wife calls them the pop pop boats.

Cal, they had wet exaust, and a muffler. so no exaust noise. The first one was a YSE 12 that the rings were gone, then found a 20 year old YSM 12 that had never been installed so brand new to me, great motors, once broken in, used .25 gal an hour at just over hull speed. But could not go below decks without hearing protection, all the rattling as the boat went along. I did not have a tach, but don't think it did more than 1800 rpm.

That's my impression of the 2 cylinder YM240, the racket isn't the exhaust but a sharp mechanical diesel clatter with every firing. And as it approaches 1800 rpm it gets stronger until by 2400 you're sure its going to grenade.

I was trying to imagine what that would sound like below decks during an hours-long crossing.:duh: I'm not surprised by your description.

Cal, it was a two day trip from Olympia Wa to the San Juans in that boat. And two days back as well. If you made all the tides right. But the Yanmar was trouble free, and even with the bigger boat that I have now It's still a two day trip, but much more comfortable.

I have a 5 KW Genset powered by a Yanmar TS105C with 6,600 hours in my 46' Motorsailer. I change the oil and filters as needed and maintain the cooling system. It is heat exchanger cooled, so I replace the sacrificial zincs as needed. It hums along at 1,800 RPM's keeping my beer cold. It has been a very reliable unit, unlike the newer Yanmar screamers.
My business is rebuilding marine diesel engines, particularly Perkins 4.108's. We do not work on Yanmars due to difficulty obtaining parts. I am just looking for a source of parts for my TS105C, if they are ever needed.

Nah. I think for a product this rare, the difficulties others have had in the past finding parts should be visible to someone finding this recent post.

This might warn someone buying a boat to not pay too much if the engine is described as 'needs overhaul', and the thread might even become a resource to all TS105C owners if someone adds a link to a parts vendor.

Oldflathead, inquire at Japanese Tractor Repair Dixon, IL. Len, the owner, used to post here. He is a specialist in researching and finding obscure Yanmar parts worldwide including ordering from his contacts in Japan.
