shaft seal leaking, replacement doesn't look right

The shaft that holds the lift arms and goes thru the bottom of the rear case is leaking on my JD2555. I picked up a couple of seals and extra washers a while back in anticipation of the repair. Now it has gotten worse and needs to be fixed. The seals I was sold are purple in color and look like a plastic seal for lack of a better way of discribing it. The one on the tractor is a metal faced seal. Since the lift arms ride right up against that seal, I would think that the plastic looking seals are wrong and should have a metal backing on them.
After spending WAY TOO MUCH TIME trying to find the shaft and seals on JD's website, I finally decided to do the smart thing and ask you guys what the name of the shaft and those seals are called. I called a friend, who suggested it was a Rockshaft, but that is higher up, with arms on it, that lift the arms via adjustable rods.
Anyone know the correct name of the shaft that is at the bottom that the lift arms ride on, and where to find it on JD's website?

Torsion bar . Those seals never seem the same after changing the first time our 2130's/2140's/3140's would need re doing every year sometimes wether we did them or dealers did . But they spent their lives on heavy 3pt work .

The shaft is called load control by JD. You need 2 of these L41198 SEALING WASHER. The sealing washers(parts key # 19) fit in a groove inside the bushings(parts key # 20). OEM there is no metal surfaced seal that 3pt draft link touches.

TxJim is correct. The only difference is the part number he quoted has been changed. The updated number is now L170667. You will not be able to see the seal until you slide the shaft out. If the shaft or the bushings are worn, they should be replace also for a long lasting repair.

So the metal seal that I am seeing is probably the outer edge of the bushing, and the seal is tucked up inside of that. Since my tractor is a high hour tractor, and gets run thru way too much brush, there is a possibility that something snagged the seal (but more likely the bushing and shaft are worn). Since I have the seals, I think I am going to install them(they are the later part number JD110 mentioned). If they seal the leak, great, if not, then I know I will need to dig deeper and buy the bushings and the load control shaft. At that point, an additional set of seals would be needed anyway, because even I wouldn't reinstall a set of used seals. I was told when I bought the seals that the load control shaft is more than $300 and the bushings were about $50 each. I think the seals were about $30 for the pair.

If the seals were $15 each I'd be looking for another JDdealer to buy parts from. My dealer would charge only $10.86

I was probably just mistaken on the price. I bought them last year when it first started oozing, from the dealership in Fort Payne, Al. I delivered near them twice a week and really liked the service I got from the guys in the parts department. I was getting nothing but wrong parts, wishful service from the ones here, so I moved my parts buying up there. Really made a difference in how I was treated and felt. If it wasn't so far, I would continue to do my shopping up there in person. They don't have a problem shipping me the parts, but I have always preferred face to face when buying parts.

I stuck the right side seal in a couple weeks ago, and it did just fine. However, now the left side is leaking a little more than it was. Probably due to me shoving the shaft out that side when changing the right side. Oh well... I should have changed both of them at one time but kind of wanted to see if I was wasting my time and seals by putting them in.

Hi,

I replaced shaft seals (removed the shaft). I'm not able to get the shaft back to place. Seems like part 14&16 is on the way? What should I do and what is the purpose of those parts?

Do you have the L/D control lever under the seat placed in the "D slot"??? If not place it there.
