I was about to build the kids a tree house. I even brought the treated lumber home. The lumber yard gave me a sheet of handleing instructions. Kind of worrysome. Really upset the wife. I called the forest products division of the state department of environmental resources. Talked to a guy who used to work for a pressure treater. One problem is that if the manufacturer doesn't treat it right the chemicals can leech out. The guy said he wouldn't use it for stuff that kids handle. I have a buddy who is a scientist at EPA. He didn't know about treated lumber but he did say that the body has no use for arsenic. I took it back. One alternitive is to seal the wood. One "expert" quoated in the local paper recomended sealing the stuff that people handle.

I think the newspaper said that there was some other chemical that would be used but that it was more expensive. They hope that as everyone switches over the price will go down. There have actually been several processes (chemicals?) available for several years but I guess that the stuff in common use is the cheapest.

I remember reading on TBN that some of the power and telephone companies had stopped giving away old poles because of concerns about the chemical treatment. I don't think that the poles were pressure treated, must be something else. I know that some horse people won't use pressure treated lumber in their barns and fences.

Old telephone poles had creosote, which is carcinogenic (coal tar derivatives)

I have built a lot of decks too. Wouldn't it be a bummer to find out you were in trouble 20-30 40 years later? I have a friend who is under the gun because of asbestos exposure. His x-rays show asbestos damage and he is wondering if he will be there for his kids.

Well, looks like we will all die of something.... Maybe if they could isolate us completly from everything we would be safe. Seems to me, the most deadly disease out there is birth, only two people in the worlds history have survived it. Maybe we should ban births, everyone would be safe then.. nobody would die and life would be good!

The safer we become, the dumber we get. Does anyone else out there see the connection? We cant even get our dumb people to kill themselves off anymore through stupid acts. If I do something stupid and hurt myself, whatever I was doing/using is likely to end up banned. It just aint right!
Good thing for me that poor spelling doesnt hurt you, or it would be banned and I couldent post this!

No Robert you aren't rambling! "The New Society" introduced life without responsibility in the US and NY is ahead of the rest when it comes to handouts. Everyone with a brain that works for what they have, should be up in arms about what the government does. I'll bet you love seeing your tax dollars thrown away! Regulation that is designed to put people out of business along with re-distribution of income to the non-producers of society. As the whole world saw on 9-11, New Yorkers come to the aid of those in need, we don't need the Gov't to decide who that is and then comfiscate the hard earned dollars of the working class to hand it out to the non-producers. We have the best welfare in the world here in NY, I have the income tax and property tax to prove it /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif! I'm sure once they succeed in putting private enterprise out of business, we will be able to hire state employed contractors to do the work /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif, they won't have to follow those silly regulations laid on the rest of the population.

There is another contractor here that is in a lawsuit for tearing off asbestas siding from a house he was going to reside. The neighbor is the one suing him as he didn't take any precautions and he wasn't licensed to do asbestas removal. I don't mind lead work because lead is not that dangerous to people in their 20's-50's but asbestas is a different breed and doesn't care who you are so I don't like to work with it. Have fun.

I've been told that in Japan, you have to be in your 50's to be licensed to do Asbestos removal. Apparently, they have figured out how long it takes for Asbestos problems to turn up and they figure if you're in your 50's when you get exposed, you won't live long enough to have problems from it.

I do not mind working for some of the people as there are a few that deserve and appreciate the work being done for them. What gets me is the 90% of the other people who we work for were not even born in this country. They move up here and buy a place for a couple thousand and immediatly apply for government assistance. Then the government supports them and fixes their house and the people don't make an attempt to find work because they don't have to. We have rebuilt houses for people under this program and in two years the people move away and gut the house. A house that was worth around $50k is now worth $50 dollars when they leave. That is the biggest problem as people do not have to be responsable for their actions anymore. Oh well, talk to you later.
