Saturday evening, as you change clocks, is a good time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors and test thier operation. It is also a good time to verify the age of the detector; many have a limited operational lifetime.

In our Fire district, we recommend changing batteries and doing a functional test at each time change.

About 5 years ago I switched to this type, as it needs no batteries I don't have to remember to change them

I was going to say, my smoke alarms are checked regularly every 2 weeks or so when my girlfriend visits, and cooks ... good food though
