Have an old beat up abused Ford Spring field cultivator. About the only parts worth saving are the frame and hitch. It was left in the dirt and the spring tines are in really bad shape. I have the frame stripped down to basically the angle iron with the 3 point hitch. Thinking of just ordering "C" tines from Agri Supply to build a cultivator using the frame.

What I am wondering about, The "C" tines only have one hole where they mount to the frame and could be mounted to this frame with a single bolt. I'm wondering if a single bolt mount is sufficient, will the tines try to turn on the bolt? Searching the net I see one row cultivators with C tines that look like they are mounted with a single bolt?

As Jeff has asked what you cultivator is like is needed but there are also the "S" tine cultivator which also has only one bolt hold. But they also have a clamp for them. Been
a while since I worked on my "s" tine cultivator but it may have a slot those tines fit in.

Yes that is what I started with but as said the only usable part is the frame, everything else is a rusted cruddy broken welded mess. It was rescued from the scrapper by a friend. Originally thought I might be able to resurrect it but after removing the spring tines and looking it over realized it was too far gone and had too many issues.

Pictures do not help, what I am going to end up with something like this except with 3 rows of two tines and a straight frame. Can get "C" tines for about $10.00 each and I have ten 7 inch sweeps.

I should add the end result will be for weed control on 30" rows.

If you want me to go to the effort of uncovering my Field Cultivator to take close up photos I will do so. Posting is a bit of a fuss, so I will not proceed unless you indicate a need.

Let me know.

Naw wouldn't ask you to go to that much trouble I understand what you are talking about. Would have been a pain for me to go out the cold shop get a photo of my mess and upload. Why I stole a photo from the net rather than post an actual photo.

I'm just up in air about what would work. Agri Supply has "S" tines for $10.99 but they only have one bolt hole for the sweep. The "C" tine has two sweep holes but both only mount with a single bolt. Guess if it becomes an issue I could fabricate some sort of bracket to keep the tine straight on the frame.

Would that be considered a cultivator or a chisel plow? I guess I am just trying to understand the difference, also curious why not just use sweeps if not using a rolling cultivator.

Think Ford designed it in the 50's and called it a Field Tiller or something like that. The photos posted by Jeff above kinda explains the original implement. My understanding is today a "cultivator" is used for weed control on existing crops.

A Field Cultivator is essentially a light duty Chisel Plow. Field Cultivators are SECONDARY TILLAGE implements.

Dirt Dog (brand) Field Cultivators are made with as few as three tines suitable for 2,000 pound (bare tractor), 4-WD tractors.

(True) Chisel Plows require 6,000 pound (bare tractor) or heavier tractors. Chisel Plows are PRIMARY TILLAGE implements.

This nine-shank Field Cultivator has been on Craig's List/Gainesville/Florida for months. A bargain for someone:
CULTIVATOR

Nine shanks would require a 4,000 pound (bare tractor) to pull through Florida soil. However, shanks are removable.

One PLOW BOLT attachment for the sweeps has never been a problem for me, once the nuts and Plow Bolts settle in.

Here are photos of the S-tine bracket. S-tine attaches to bracket with 7/16" X 3-1/2" carriage bolts and ny-lock nuts. Brackets are available in multiple sizes. Best supplier: Agri Supply: S- Tines and S-Tine Clamps

The Tool Bar Cultivator is an Italy import form Woodward Crossings in Pennsylvania, which they term a Wunderbar, rated for 65-horsepower. I have two of these. One for BX, second for my L3560.
