Hello
I visited this forum and others looking for help with my Mahindra with the above symptoms. Due to circumstances beyond my control, my tractor sat for almost a year. I changed the all the oil/air filters, but the tractor was still is bad shape when I started it up. Very rough idle, with black smoke. Any increase of throttle just bogged down and rpms fell.
Having already eliminated the obvious causes, I needed some help. Black smoke is usually too little air or too much fuel. Some of the suggestions I read included loose broken wires on emission controls or sensors, EGR valve, and blocked air intake beyond filters. On the fuel side, black smoke would suggest injector stuck open. For the emissions light, purchasing a code reader was suggested. A lot of people just gave up and took it into a dealer for repair.
I checked all the wires and air intake. That left the injectors as a possible cause. Small fuel tank, so I put in 1/3 of a can of Seafoam. Left it idling for about a hour, then slowly increased the rpms. When I got above 2,000, lots of sparks flying out of the exhaust (built up carbon from unburned fuel). I was able to drive it around and it was much better, but still a bit off. The next day I started putting the tractor to work. By the end of the second day, and second fill of Seaform/fuel, it was running like new.
I am sharing because dealer repairs and parts are so expensive these days. I not suggesting you have to use Seafoam, as there are many other brands that are probably just as good. Just check the labels for diesel. An additive for gosoline fuel injectors would probably damage your tractor. Sometimes a simple and inexpensive solution works.
Hope this helps someome, Clyde
