I have an older Woods tiller that I purchased second hand. The last owner used it on a smaller tractor, and it is cut so short that I'm not getting much engagement. Also, it is missing the safety shield and the rest of the plastic parts haven't aged well. The slip clutch is doing fine, and it works well otherwise. I'm thinking about just buying a new shaft rather than try to piece together the bits that I need, but I'm not sure how universal the parts are. Does anyone know what the odds are that I can just buy a new shaft from the slip clutch forward, remove my old slip clutch, and attach the new drive line? Or am I better off buying a new shaft with a new clutch? Is there anything I can measure or otherwise document to better answer the unknowns?

Here is what I have:

You can buy replacement shields, although they are proud of them! But also proud of PTO shafts!

Another option (although it does nothing for the shield) for a shorten PTO shaft is a PTO stub extension. They come in varying lengths and should be available at most farm and home type stores—ie TSC, Rural King, and 100’s of others
