I have done some searching but have came up with no opinions on a front mounted snowblower for our 2720. Is the JD 54" a good snowblower? Can anyone give us any advice for getting a front snowblower?
We just want some insurance in case we ever get another big snow storm. The bucket just wasn't enough to keep the driveway cleared this storm!
Thanks for any help.

Im not one that would keep anyone from adding another implement - IM always looking for a half way decent reason to buy something.. BUT

You may want to consider what the chances are in the near future for the snows we have had in 09-10 winter.. We have had three 12" snows (60 miles from here one of the snows was 24")... I after the last snowfall they were selling blowers like hot cakes, but I bet most will sit idle for many more years.. lol A normal year for us is 1 or 2 6" to 8" snows..

Would a 54" be wide enough for your tractor? My 2320 is about about that width..

54" would cover it--barely. JD lists width at 52.6". I measured myself and found rear tire tread width to be 49" in narrow position and 51" in wide position. I'm guessing JD's 52.6" measurement is overall width at the sidewalls which is a bit wider than tread width.

I'm in the process of upgrading from the 47 to the 54 for my 2520. Got the new one ordered, but the dealer tells me it won't be here until JULY. Must be some others out there with the same idea.

Hopefully the snow will be gone by then, but if not, I'll be ready...

Dont you have a Polaris RZR. Think I seen you on the rzrforums. Just bought a plow for my rzr because my JD 4110 range shifter broke off.

She is going to the shop and wont be seeing her for a while.

I was thinking about tradin it in for a 2720 or 3320.

How well do you like the 2720?

Would you go bigger now if you had the chance?

Also, which dealer did you go with?

Thanks

Look at a rear 3PH blower maybe? 1/2 the price and you can keep your FEL mounted...That is the option I am considering since large snowfalls are so rare here it's hard to justify the expense of a front blower.

I have no problem buying a "insurance" item, even if I don't use it for a couple years. As long as I know we have something that will be quicker and easier then the bucket.
I just want to be sure if we get the 54" that it is a good blower to buy. I also would like to hear opinions of how good they work.

Bryan - Yes, I am on the RZR forum. We love the 2720 - the only problem we have been having is the 62D - which in my opinion has been dealer setup. Power wise the 2720 is perfect for us.

Kenny: I'm thinking thats the way to go, rear mounted blower with FEL still. Will make sure we don't see snow for five more years...

If I went with a snow blower, I'd get a rear mounted one. My friend in Winchester who has lived there since about the mid 70s uses an FEL with rear snow blower. I'd still need the FEL for some of the turnaround area when one has to be very careful where the discharge of a blower is pointed. Snow blowers are heavy, too. So a rear one with FEL still on front would probably be pretty well balanced.

Ditto....the Frontier rear mounts are real nice units. Another thing to think about...Resale on a 3pt is WAY better and easier. Its not hard to sell a gently used 3pt blower regardles of age, but selling a front mount is a hit or miss deal because they are so specific to machine.

So not only do you pay 1/2 the price up front, you can resell a rear mount for 2x more $$ then a front mount.
