Purging new propane tank at home

The same way they do at the distributor. My hose is equipped with a valve that is a liquid indicator. See liquid, turn off pump and close valve. LP isn't that difficult.

I ordered a kit for my home tank but haven’t installed it yet. How much vapor escapes when you swap the tank fittings?

I didn't. I installed mine when I installed the new tank at my house. It was empty. Doing that may be a trick though.

when liquid release it expands 272 times as it vaporizes. Liquid vaporizes at temperatures over -44'F. Its the liquid that makes LP gas guys pucker up. By code it should release less than 4CC f I saw a pump on a homeowners tank I would probably not fill it. Too much liability.

What liability would a gas distributor have on a homeowners tank and pump? So if I'm stupid enough to blow myself up, my family can successfully sue the gas distributor. Good luck with that.

Crack the 20 lb. slowly. Propane is heavier than air, so when you bleed the top it will be more air than propane. Repeat. Just a WAG.

Either they would have an OPD or a dip tube.

There are several videos on You Tube on purging. If you bought the tank as a propane tank it may have come pre-purged, pay to check that with the vendor selling it. This process is not rocket science.

Go to the closest RV dealer, they should be able to help you out. A lot of them have sell propane or if not have a vender that does all their filling.
