Hi Folks,

I am trying to verify if the JD790 production run was actually from 2000-2005? I've also recently read the next years lineup will include the 790 once again.

Although certainly not infallible, tractordata.com also lists the JD790 manufactured dates from 2000 to 2005. My sources indicate that the JD2210 and JD790 units produced stopped when Yanmar and JD ended their contract.

I have searched several combinations of discontinued JD models but come up empty with anything proof positive...anyone know for sure or has a link to verify this info??

Thanks, Mark

the 790 started in 1998 or 1999.
Although the Deere/Yanmar partnership has ended, Deere still shows the 790 as a current machine on their website.
Of course, Deere doesn't update their site too often. Some of the "new" 2007 790 pics still have the vertical exhaust.

I'm curious how this is working too, BTW.
Also, the last issue of "Compact Equipment" had an ad for a Cub Cadet/Yanmar on the back cover.

Thanks Roy,

I'm finding out...that the more I look the less I'm finding out - LOL.

It would be nice to know what's currently in production and what has stopped. Talking here and visiting other forums, everyone seems to use the WAG method...wild....guess. That's OK too, as were all on the same page.

It is going to be phased out. See reply #8 in this thread:

About the 790 and 990's being phased out...

Hate to see either of them go, but both have been around as long or longer then Deere normally produces a model.

My guess is Deere will replace them with chinese tractors...which means I go to Kubota, New Holland or maybe Club Cadet next time.

Of course, "next time" is going to be quite a while, unless I hit the lottery.

Been out of the loop for a while on a Dall Sheep hunt up north. Gonna go moose huntin' in a couple of days --- but have to keep checkin' in to get the latest tractor fix!

How about some more gas on the WAG fire...? Roy --- why Chinese? Looks like Deere is moving to India.

The new '03 models are built in India. What about India built frames and US engines?

Apparently Deere bought a plant in China that produces tractors in the low HP range (18-30, if I recall) which would be a natural to replace their Yanmar produced tractors.
I was of the impression the Indian plants built some of the 5xxx series machines. I suppose that plant could be tooled to build the bigger CUTs (4xxx series) currently being built in the US.

Hmm.. I understood that Deere has stopped production of the 5105-5205 and will offer a new line-up of 5003 machines in MFWD (as well as 2WD) -- 5103 thru 5403 models.

They're dropping the 790-990 and planning to offer another line of "value tractors" to be known as...?

Have there been rumblings that Deere might shift production of the 4000x20 series machines to an overseas plant as well?

Don't know if a smaller CUT value tractor line (790-990) might be a better fit in a plant that is geared up to produce a "value" line of utility tractors (5003)..

Interesting times.

Too bad. The big Three don't offer enough high quality basic machines in this size range. Tractors like the 990 are versatile and affordable. Enough power and weight to do some serious work, rugged and simple enough to run for decades, yet small and light enough to be easily trailered. If Deere offers incentives to clear them out, I might be tempted.

Can't never have too many tractors.

AKfish: didja get your sheep? Must be tough, livin' in AK. ;)
