2016 KUBOTA B2650 w/cab & A/C
I have a B2650 cab model. My 4WD lever is usually extremely hard to get in and out of 4WD. Even on level ground, in neutral, treadle centered, and on cold or hot days. Another thing that exacerbates the problem is the horrible placement of the lever. It's down by the floor, is only a few inches long, and I'm an old fart.

Anyone else have issues like this (well except for the old fart syndrome).

Just stomp on it with your foot, it works

Put your bucket on the ground and life the front tires a shosh. Easy shifting at that point. Also, have a little pressure on the brake pedal.

Lever is down by the floor? Is it different on cab models vs ROPS?

The issue is the front tires slightly overdrive the rear for stability.
This causes the gears to be under load most of the time. They wont shift under load.

As grouse says, you can lift the front tires with the loader.

You can also move the tractor forward and back slowly while pulling or pushing the lever. Mine usually slips right in upon reversing after moving forward a foot or so.

Either lift the front off the ground & shift, or shift when moving. The fronts spin about 5% faster for better steering. The drivetrain can take it, but it's hard to shift at times. I tend to shift on the fly when not turning or slipping. The movement let's the gears slide in & out of mesh.

Mine is the same but it engages easily when moving slightly, also difficult if the wheels are turned, my 4WD ute is much the same, I think it is just a 4WD thing.

On my L2501 and M7040 I normal ease back or forward maybe a 1/4 of a roll on the front tires to get in to or out of 4wd with the wheels straight. On my rtv it’s the same when I take it out of 4wd, wheels have to be straight and no load on 4wd. The book on my rtv also says turn the wheels all the way left and right the recenter and it will make it come out of 4wd. I have never tried it on the tractor though. I like it that way because I don’t have to worry about it being too easy to put in or out of 4wd and going it going into 4wd while bouncing through ruts, ditches, etc on its own. I will definitely try raising the front end alittle if I’m in a bind and can’t pull up or back up enough to get the tractor in 4wd.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I usually only use the 4WD in winter or during grass mowing with some steep inclines, and won't have the loader on while mowing. I wasn't aware of the overdrive situation. I've tried stomping on the lever, but that usually doesn't work. Mine is just as hard to get into 4WD, and it is to get out of.

Last night we went through 3 tornado warnings, and the last one went right over us but didn't touch down (thankfully). We've gotten almost 3 inches of rain since yesterday and it's still coming down. I'm thinking about making some pontoons for my tractor.

My old B2910 was a breeze to shift into 4WD, all you had to do was stop and slide the lever. Sometimes Kubota makes some changes that just don't make sense.

Every tractor I have operated is stubborn to get into/out of 4WD (usually harder getting out than in). I always assumed it was normal, especially based on the way the FWD is engaged.
