I'm shopping for a used 6' or 7' finish mower for my JD 4310, and I found a Bush Hog brand 72" RDTH finish mower locally. Owner says it's 1 yr old and he's asking $1000. What do ya'll think?

At the risk of derailing my own thread I also have a side question. What I'd really like is a 7 footer, what do you think about a 7' mower behind my 4310 (32hp), is that too much for my tractor? My mowing is a big front lawn (about 3 acres) with a slight slope, but no trees and essentially no obstacles. I've seen some 84" mowers with 32 hp ratings, but I've seen more of them with 35hp and up ratings.

$1000 for a 1 year old machine I would jump on it for that price. As for the 7 footer for your tractor it should be fine Your tractor has plenty of hp to run it as long as you are not using it as a bush hog.

for a $1000 you better buy it before someone else does. thats a great deal if its not all beat or bent up.

i just paid a $1000 for a 2005 buhler/farm king 6 footer in nice shape with new set of blades. they are around 2300 new and i'm guessing a bush hog brand would be more than that.

I see them in the $1200+ range relatively frequently on CL, so I'd call a grand a pretty good price. If it were me........ I'd still be offering 9 in cash though.;)

$1000 is a great deal for 1 year old mower. I bought a used rhino 6' mower with side discharge at an auction, for $750. It was a couple of years old but in very good condition. I traded it in 1 year later for a 7' new rhino ($1800) with rear discharge and dealer gave me $1200 for the 6' on trade in. I use the 7' on my JD 3720 (44hp) without any problems and plenty of power to spare even with cab and a/c on. I really prefer the rear discharge over the side discharge.

I have a Bus hog RFM and it is about 7 years old and would laugh if offered $1000 for it. Been great.

As to the size of your mower for the HP, don't over look the grass you will be cutting. I have 6 foot with 27 hp and it handles it well other than when I hit my real thick Zoysia and it cuts it but at much lower ground speed.

Well I just found a 7' DelMorino for sale, they are asking $1000, it's about 5 years old, not in to bad shape (some superficial rust around a few edges).

So I'm officially derailing my thread. Price seems pretty good, now I'm more focused on mower size to hp issues.

Regarding grass thickness, mines not very plush so me thinks I'd be good there.

Opinions?

I think you will be just fine mowing a lawn with the 7' mower. I have a 3520 and a 7 foot woods mower (PRD8400). I mow an old pasture area when the grass is 8" to 12" high and have no problem running at 4 to 5 mph.

I since last mowing season I have upgraded my tractor and would like to go from 6-7 feet. New 7 foot mowers are going for 3300. I'll stick with my 6 foot for now. If I find a 7 foot for 1000 I would jump all over it.

I JUST bought a used RDTH 72 for $1,100 and am still dancing a jig. What a NICE mower! I've been looking for the right mower at the right price for over a year now. I've done enough homework on finish mowers to make Einstein reach for a bottle of asprin. The owner originally wanted $1,200 and I was ready to pay it but he dropped a bill and I wasn't going to argue. I say GO! Oh, it's a heavy sucker, 7 gauge deck, nobody beats that, but it's a bear to load on a pickup; trailer it if you can. Good luck
