Power beyond modification for ease of use

Yes when you drop the backhoe that would be correct. As long as it is connected, the only thing that probably would not work is the three point. That is a good thing because it is locked down for the backhoe to be installed.

When the backhoe valve is disconnected from the series, then you must loop power back to power beyond. Running the engine without the loop or the backhoe valve will damage your system because the pump will be pumping but fluid can not flow except over the pressure relief. If you can lift the loader with the backhoe installed, there is no way you are going to damage anything. You will not be able to use the backhoe valve at the same time as loader valve because the loader valve will redirect the flow to your loader cylinders. Once you release the loader valve, flow will be available for the backhoe valve. If you are not using the loader valve or backhoe valve the flow will simply go back to the tank.

That is the only way to do it safely. If you do as has been suggested, you will allow fluid to be available for the 3 point hitch. If you accidentally try to raise the 3pt, you will dead head the pump because the 3pt is locked down. From what I can tell, they have plumbed everything correctly but just did not explain the procedure to you properly.

However, you should talk to someone that can make you feel comfortable before doing anything. I just hate for you to go through the trouble and expense of adding a diverter valve and wind up damaging your pump. Please do let us know how it goes and if you still want to move forward with this project we will be glad to help.

I’m glad the original poster is good. I don’t mean to hijack his thread.

However this post has me concerned about my setup.
I may have a situation of flowing over the pressure relief valve.
Nothing seems to struggle though like a deadhead situation.

I have pump pressure to a 4 spool
Block with power beyond. That Pb feeds the FEL joystick valve which has a pressure in, Pb out to 3 point.
Both the 4valve and FEL valve are “Td “ into a tank return line.

When I use backhoe, I plug into one of the 4 valve remotes that I converted to detent where it stays on instead of spring return to center.
The backhoe has 2 lines in and out to connect to that detented remote spool. No Pb. No return to tank.

The FEL and three point don’t work when that detent spool is on.
They do when it is off.

My concern is that where the pressure is going when the backhoe valve on the 4 spool remote is On powering the backhoe but the backhoe levers aren’t being used.

I assumed the pressurized fluid would flow past all the backhoe ports and return to the 4 valve to be returned to tank.
With that 4 spool lever Off, pressure passes all 4 spools to Pb to FEL joystick valve.
Assumption of an open center backhoe valve (bush hog 750)

But if that 4spool valve is On and backhoe valves aren’t actuated, then a closed center would deadhead the pressure at the backhoe valve inlet.
So I could be returning via over the pressure relief valve on the backhoe rather than the return as expected.
Wouldn’t I hear/feel that if so?

I wasn’t aware of a closed center spool would even be used on 3 point backhoe till I followed along this thread. Not sure even why it would be made that way.

Yes Lenny, if your valve is closed center it would blow over the relief and possibly damage your system. However, if it is open center you should fine doing as you described.

A closed center valve is used with a fixed displacement pump. Most likely your back hoe is open center.

I do think you would notice if things were dead heading. As a test, you could extend the curl cylinder on your bucket and hold pressure for a moment. You will hear the relief valve work. Then you will know what to listen for. Good luck!
