I converted my bucket to quick attach, so now I have to take my old chain-on forks and turn them into a single attachment. I have been busy cutting and welding.

The tines are heavily rusted on the bottom. I am getting rid of the bulk of the rust with a stripper disk and grinder. After that, I want to apply something that will give me good rust resistance. The problem is that these things drag on the ground, so anything I put on them will have to be hard.

I have used Dupli-Color oil-based truck bed coating on things in the past, and it has been extremely tough. I just found out about a product called POR-15 which is supposed to be pretty much like a ceramic. I was thinking I might put it on the bottoms of the tines and use cheaper products everywhere else.

Has anyone here used this stuff? A quart will cost me $42, and it will cover quite a bit. I will also have to get phosphoric acid to prepare the metal.

I wouldn't waste my money on it. I've tried everything from slapping it on rusty metal without prep, to sandblasting and using every single one of their recommended pre-treatments. It always started to peel within a year. The only time it lasted was when I spilt some on my concrete floor. It lasted a few years, then.

No paint will handle rubbing on the ground. Bed coating is probably your best bet. Keep a spray can of it handy for touchups. If you do decide to go down the snake-oil path of POR-15, heed the health warnings. It's beyond nasty for your lungs.

Thanks for the warning. I guess I'll use it on the floor instead of the bucket.

It's impossible to get Kubota Orange implement paint in cans right now unless you order a case or something. It's amazing how many types of shortages a determined government can cause.
