I know someone here must know...

My system crashed; I built a fresh one with new Motherboard, CPU, Fan/heat sink, memory, and hard drive. The system is up and running fine. Outlook works(2000 version), as does Netscape. But, I want my bookmarks, address list etc.

I have installed my old hard drive as a secondary drive, and recovered documents, pictures, etc. But I can not see what I need for the Outlook fil. I know before on a previous system upgrade, I looked for a .pst file for Outlook. I don't see it on my old hard drive, nor do I know what to look for for the Netscape bookmarks.

Any idea how to migrate that info from the old drive to the new?

FWIW, I went from an old Intel 865 board and processor to a new ASUS P5 board with Intel Dual Core and a SATA hard drive.

We'll assume your old hard drive is now the D drive. Outlook 2000 stores mail and contacts in the .pst file as you said. Did you search the old drive for the .pst? You only give hardware details which has nothing to do with your question. would really need to know OS old and new, netscape what version old and new and if I read correctly you are using the Works version of Outlook 2000?

In Win XP try looking in ....

Old Drive:\Documents and Settings\"UserName"\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Works or Office\Outlook\*.pst

Netscape stores bookmarks in profiles, look in the same place except replace microsoft with netscape find the folder with your profile in it and copy the contents onto the new drive same place new profile and when you open netscape it should look like it used to.

It would be helpful to know what OS you have so as we could give you better information on where the .pst files are.

As khd said they will be somewhere in Documents and Settings\ yourname\ Application Data.

Once you find the old .pst you can put it straight back in the new profile folder or, you can go and delete the .pst file that is in your new profile you created when you reinstalled Outlook. Then open up outlook and it will ask for your .pst files location. Have it somewhere easy to find like the desktop and point Outlook to it.

Things should go back to normal.

To get Netscape back to normal you just want to copy your entire profile contents into your new profiles folder.

Your profile will probably be something like iduynyg8.default

I'll search again on those paths.

I have been running XP home edition with my old Office 2000 package.

If you don't find, use the search and enter " *.pst " (without quotations) and if they are there, it will find them. Just select the applicable drive and allow it to search the entire drive.

If you have hidden files, the .pst may be among them...make sure you either show all files or search all files.
When using search, select the advanced search functions and check the block for hidden files and folders. As Grrr and crbr wrote, go with the wildcard (*.pst).

If worse comes to worse, pull your new HD out and master the old HD (hopefully this will be a cable select situation, rather then having to reset jumpers). Once that's set up, use the import/export function in Outlook to send all contact info to an Excel or Access file (the file is created when you do this). I'd also print out all contact info (various ways you can do this) so you can make corrections when you import the data onto your new HD.
Just make sure you know where you save that file.
While your at it, this would be a good time to archive your old e-mail, if you want to save it. Again, you can pull these archived e-mails into your new HD. Again, make sure you know where you save the file or files.

I don't use Netscape....can't help there.
