Outdoor Stored Implements

Due to a lack of storage/funds to create storage, I have left my implements outside for a number of years. The implements are showing the effects...sun bleached and rust.

While I consider building a pole barn to store them, how can I protect them now? Seems like someone told me they sprayed implements with Kerosene to leave a film of oil on them.

Any suggestions?

Fluid Film is a good product to use. FLUID FILM? | Corrosion Preventative, Lubricant and Rust Inhibitor It can be bought by the gallon to be more economical. I use it all the time, great staying power on whatever you put it on.

When I lived in Scotland, the farmers I knew saved their used POL products over the summer. When it came time to put the implements up for the winter, they either sprayed or brushed on the used oil. They also parked the implements on pallets or equivalent - to minimize ground contact. Then come spring they'd hit'em with the power washer, perform any necessary maintenance, and hit the fields.

Most of my stuff is outside, I simply don't have room to store it inside. I would also recommend the Fluid film and keep the implements clean to reduce the damage from rusting. Getting the new shop up is taking more time than I would like.

i cover my rotary cutter and back blade with a canvas tarp.. After 5 yrs parts of the tarps are starting so show some wear, but that seems to be also where the rabbits ate part of them.. Any non-canvas tarp you buy at walmart etc, wont last very long due to the UV light..

Some ppl are buying old billboard tarps - search online - they are suppose to be very good for covering equipment
