Back when I was working I had about 10 miles of interstate to drive. I hear or see a bang on the oncoming side of the interstate. A Semi tire blew. That was probably up to 100' away and it certainly got my attention. Ever since then I try not to dawdle around when passing a semi on a four lane.

Load the tires with fluid.

Same principle as doing air compressor tank testing, if the volume is 75% using an uncompressible liquid the explosive force will be drastically reduced. I have to wonder what the PSI in those tires was when they blew?

And that's why I don't spend time riding alongside semi trucks on multi-lane roads when I'm on my motorcycle. Always hang back or get the hell around them fast. You just never know.

We have trucking depots next to us and behind us. Plus we rent, and deliver frac tanks out of our yard.

So that means lots and lots of semi tires.

We've had one blow into our yard, and they've had a couple next door as well as behind us blow over the years.

Doesn't bother us mechanics or drivers when one goes off, but it sure sets the office personel into a tizzy

what was that exactly that caused the damage? I'm not really involved with heavy equipment. was that a split rim coming apart?

About 1997 I was towing our 5th wheel camper on a interstate. I was slowly passing a semi when a tire blew. Bout crapped, then realized it was my RR truck tire. To my surprise and comfort, my truck N trailer rig handled well, got slowed, pulled in behind the semi into the breakdown lane. Then limped to the next rest stop @ 10 MPH.
Later I was talking to my cousin/state policeman, and he said to never drive beside a big truck, pass quickly then let off until I reach my set speed.
As to the OP's video, road graders are notorious for having beat-up tires, but that is extreme.
That is about how a 22.5" truck tire explodes too; excuse me, today it's called a sudden tire failure.
