Oil change on cab tractor

I am getting ready to do the first service on my 4720 cab and it looks like I will have to remove the loader to get in and refill the oil?? Does this sound right?? I think it is a tighter area to work than my open station was.

I have to drop the loader to change to oil too..that applies to my old Deere 670, 790 and current 4400. Can't pull the side panels with th loader installed.

Changed oil on my cab 3520 awhile back. No problem with the loader on, just needed a funnel with a long neck. No fuss, no mess.

On my 855 it certainly is easier to do with the loader off. Much better access to all sides of the engine etc. I have done it without removal though.

i have no problems removing the side panels on my 4310 with the loader in place

I can remove the side panels on my 4010 with the FEL on. Last coolant change though, I proped the loader up on a 4' piece of 2 by, just to get the arms out of my way.

I found out that my oil (Pela marketed by DR) extractor will remove ALL the oil from the crankcase. So, in future oil changes, I'm not going underneath the tractor to take that drain plug out. I extracted this last oil change and removed the drain plug. NOTHING came out. This is better than it worked even on my Tacoma engine.

4120 w/ 400x loader here - no cab, but I do not have to remove the loader to change the oil. I did use a transmission funnel to make it a little easier to pour quickly though. The filter, dipstick and filler cap all are in close proximity on the left side, don't even have to lift the hood. I would expect your 4720 to be identical.

I'm kinda clutzy and it's real easy for me to spread a few ounces of oil - here and there - when I refill the crankcase... :ashamed:

So, I always propped the FEL up with my JD 970 and I drop in the hyd cylinder block on my 110 when I do the service.

Do you have an engine hoist or overhead chain hoist that you could use as a "safety check" on your loader?

I need to go look at an open station tractor again but it just seems like with the cab its a tighter fit to get into the oil fill location. I have thought about poping to loader off but then I see how close it is to the front glass and I ask myself "do I really want to take this loader off???"

You answered the question I have been asking myself while following this thread. Since the loaders are so easy to remove, I didn't know why anyone would not bother to just do that. I remember now the concerns I have heard about the closeness to the cab front glass.
