I changed the oil for the first time today on my 2542, What a pain in the rear. I decide I would change the oil drain fitting.
For any one interested here is what I did. I removed the mower deck for ease of working underneath, I then removed the 4 motor mount bolts so I could lift the motor slightly, unscrewed the oil drain fitting and installed a 2" long by 3/8 " galvanized pipe, I then installed a 3/8" elbow that I had ground the shoulder off of it and faced the ell towards the rear of the tractor, I then installed a 2 1/2" by 3/8" nipple and another 3/8" ell facing down with a 2" by 3/8" nipple with a cap on it.
This is not anything new that I have done, I am sure someone had done this before but I could not find anything on previous posts that gave me the lengths of the pipe used. For all of the money I spent when purchasing this tractor you would think that Cub Cadet would have done something similar to make it easier for the home mechanic to change the oil. All of the pipe and fittings came to about $11. but it took the better part of 4 hours to complete the job.
