Kubota B6100 - 4x4
Hello folks! Great forum!!!

I have recently purchased a B6100 4x4 with 780 hrs .... works and looks pretty good for an antique!

I have some basic questions as the manual that came with it didn't wear as well as the tractor.

The hydraulic fluid: where is the plug to check it? And the fill plug?

What are the best fluids to use.....feedback? (oil, gear oil, hyd. fluid, and so on)

Any experiences and insight on this little beast would be great!!!

Cheers! And glad to be here .... I will post a picture soon. ;)

Eric! Welcome to the forum! Your Hydraulic fluid is the same as the gear box fluid. The dipstick to the right of the gear shift and the fill cap is to the left of it.

I run a fluid from a local car/tractor parts store. There are lots of opinions on hydraulic fluid. I look at it as my 6100 has been run so hard in the last 30 years putting generic fluid in it isn't going to kill it now. I just watch the change intervals. When I can get a new one... well that will be different.

Good luck with it!

I realize that this link is based on a specific machine but this may help you get a feel for some of the questions that may loom.

Thanks a million Wanna be farmer! (great nick btw!)

I agree, 30 years of generic fluid .. fancy synthetic stuff is probably overkill.

What type of fluid do you use? It must be a special type of transmision fluid?

BTW, do you have a front end loader on your B6100? How do you like it?

Cheers! And thanks for your help .....

Eric

Hi Eric,

I have a 1978 B6100DT. Original owner was my FIL who gave it to me a few years ago. He was meticulous and kept all the original manuals and documentation. I use 80wt gear oil in the tranny/3PH per the operator's manual.

Your 3point plumbing on the right side look a bit different than mine. What does that blue "T" handle do?

What year is yours?

What's that galvanized pipe arrangement on the oil fill port for?

Sorry for all the questions - just curious...

Hello WVBill,

I believe it is a 1984. It is 4x4 ... what does the DT stand for?

The 80wt ... any specific brand/type?

The T handle is to switch between rear and front hydraulic. It has the set-up for front hyd.

Not sure what the galvanized pipe is in place ... perhaps it was a modification made or simply a change due to the model-year.

Do you have a front-end-loader on yours?

Anything else you want to share about your beast would be great!

Pleasure!

Eric

You can go to this link and download a free 135 page parts manual for your tractor. It illustrates every standard part and assembly. Its only a meg so it wont take long to download. Youre lucky, its one of the few manuals still available on this temporarily busted (I hope) kubotabooks library. You dont need a password. Just open the 'tractors' folder and scroll down for the 6100

The site is slow to respond but be patient.

Eric -

The "DT" designation means Manual Transmission, 4WD

No particular brand of gear oil - I just use what I get from Tractor Supply which is actually 80W90.

I have a Kubota B219 Front End Loader which has its own separate hydraulic system. One of the vertical stanchions is the reservoir. The pump is driven from the front full-time PTO. I'll post pictures of the tractor when I get home.

My FIL kept it outside in the Southern California sun for most of the time he had it - and worked it hard. But he maintained it well so it's in good mechanical condition just not very pretty. Yours looks like it is both.

I bought the workshop manual after I got it - just in case. But frankly it looks like almost anything that needs to be done on the tractor other than routine maintenance requires a major tear down and splitting the tractor. I had to replace the fan belt and had to remove the FEL pump and the radiator to do it! So I just try to do good PM and hope nothing goes really bad with it.
