Whats the going price at a Deere Dealer for a brand new AWS? What's the best deck for the buck?

You can find the msrp at the Deere web site. I was quoted $7200 for an X540 with 54" deck the other day, so that will give you some idea of local (NH) discount.

The x495 is not in production anymore. Price the x744 for aws model that is about the same as the x495 aws. I like my 62 inch deck. JC

Roll Tide no Auburn fans here! In general do you like your Deere(s) and have they given you good service in this Alabama heat?

The best deck is the 7 iron 60"; the best for the money is the 62c deck. Not as heavy but heavy enough for many hours of solid use. As for price, take the configured retail and subtract 10-15% to give you a range to consider. If you can beat that, buy the machine. In 99% of cases involving sales of 700 series machines, one can figure on this price range for discount.

As dry and hot as last summer was, I kept the screens clean on the radiator and had no problems. JC

I agree. My old 595 would suck a lot of debris into the screen. To effectively clear it, I would have to turn off the engine and allow the debris to fall off to clear effectively. This was about the only problem JD had with these machines, overheating engines secondary to debris being caught in the intake screens.
