I am looking at a L4400 HST, with loader. What do you think of this model? How does it compare to the Grand L? Is a price of 22,790 + tax decent?

Among other models, I was looking at a leftover L4400 HST w/FEL in July for $21,400. I ended up buying a Grand L4240 "demo" with around 60 hours on it for $22,900. I'm not sure where you are, but I know prices can vary around the US. My prices were from NJ and DE.

Do a search here and you can find discussion on the L vs. Grand L. Kubota's website is also pretty good with explaining the HST+ on the Grand L and some of the other features. The ratings on the Grand L loader are higher.

I am very happy with the L4240. Some of the features are really neat, although I was a bit nervous about all of the electronics involved. Whether or not you want the additional features will depend on how you plan to use it, and, of course, your budget.

I bought a new L4400DT w/FEL last spring. It was a leftover model (2006) and I paid $18,200.

In car/truck terms I would describe the L4400 as a base model. The Grand series is the top of the line model.

My L4400 is straight out of the 80's. No frills, same basic design that's been used for decades. Tough as a rubber overshoe and just as comfortable. ;)

In a "do over" I'd go for the Grand series. Some people call them frills. I call them work accessories.

I purchased a L4400 HST in april. I did look at the Grand L's but the price per horsepower made the decision for me. I was looking at around 6000 more for the same horsepower in the Grand L or 30hp for the same price as my 45 horse tractor. It all depends on what you are going to use it for. I basically use it for spreading horse poo, cleaning lots, mowing, spreading gravel - sand, dragging arena and unloading sawdust. I didn't see any need for frills. It is a very basic tractor and I like that it is simple to use for the 100 hrs I will put on it per year that made the decision for me. If it were something I was going to be on for more than 200 hrs per year comfort would have been more of my buying decision. But for the horse power per dollar you can't beat the 4400.

BTW weight has never been an issue - some will bring this up about the Grands vs the L's with loaded tires and a box blade on back I run out of hydraulic pressure before the tires come off the ground.

All depends on what you are using it for.

Nothing but good things to say for the L4400HST that I have. I got the TNT, Triple remotes and SSQD bucket. I had the rears loaded with WWF and the power to weight ratio seems to work well. I use it on the hills and I have the rears set out to the widest setting and it is a stable tractor with a low center of gravity. I use a 7 foot rear box blade and a 7 foot scraper blade and a 6 foot medium duty rotary cutter. It has met expectations and them some.
