Hi Fellas, new guy here!

Brought home a new toy today -

Yep... A brand spanking new 6' King Kutter II rototiller.

I know there are two camps here as far as gear verses chain drive but, the deciding factor for me was the price. My local Family, Farm and Home had the 6' KK II on sale for $1599.00 and we're farm exempt so - no tax either!

I got the KK II dropped off in the shop -

Here she is - ready to be un-crated and serviced!

Looks great, I was looking at them.
To extend the life of it, I would middle bust first, checking for big rocks. Unless the spot has already been tilled.
Have fun with it.

Hi Knight! Thanks for your comments.

The first usage will be for our garden, which has already been tilled. The KK II will be a big time saver, I have using my father-in-law's Massey Ferguson garden tractor with a belt drive 36" tiller. The next order of business will be tearing up some ground for a small orchard.

Good deal!! You'll like your new tiller... I sure like mine. Worth every penny.

Don't know why you would till before planting fruit trees.

Damm, what a great price! Our tiller is now 3 weeks old- we paid near 2200!

See my post in customizations on building a kickstand for it- was easy and worked great

RoadGear-
Great price! Don't forget to remove your owner's manual from under the hinged rear shield before you start work on your future orchard. BTW - I like Sackett's kick stand - I'll have to add one to my yellow mixer.

That looks like a nice fresh one. Most I see at TSC have sat on their lot or at the distributing wharehouse long enough to be a rusted mess. Let us know how it works with the TC55. I'd like to know if your low 1st gear is slow enough for the hard new areas.

nice, i have a 5' one for a couple years. suggest gently tightening and putting a dab of goop on the side gearbox cover screws, that area prone to leaks and the screws loosening.

and i use moly in the gear oil to make it last forever

Nothing like a satisfied customer testimonial!

I just thought it'd be a good idea to work up the area before putting in the trees

Yessir! It was a great price! I'll be checking out your post on the kickstand - sounds like a useful accessory.

Hey Jim! You know it's funny, when I was down on my hands and knees greasing the carrier bearing, I saw something stuck to the inside of the rear shield. It was the owner's manual!

It was in real good shape - don't think it'd been out in the yard for long. As soon as I get the chance to hook it up, I'll let you know how the TC's gearing works out. I've got some new ground I'll be breaking so that should give it a good workout.

Hi John! Glad you joined in!

You know it's funny, I always wished I had a new(er) utility tractor but I could never afford one. It took me until I retired but, I'm the proud owner of a New Holland TC55DA. Same thing with the King Cutter. I thought I'd never own a 3PT rototiller either, but here I am with a brand new one!

Sometimes things do work out!

Hi iplumb!

Yep, I guess I lucked out with this one! Not a speck of rust on it. It was the only one on the lot besides a 4 footer. The 4 footer looked just as nice.

Does the KK II's gearbox com pre filled or do you have to service it. If so.......what type of oil?

Thanks

Hi Hugh!

The KK II comes dry - no lube, no grease. There are two gearboxes, one for the PTO and one on the side for the tine reel shaft plus grease zerks on the PTO u-joints and the tiller reel shaft bearing.

I used Traveller's gear lube (got a bunch of that around) and a muti-purpose lithium grease for the zerks.

You need to look at your owners manual. Think its 80-90 gear oil.

Hey greenmule!

Sorry, I miss-typed! I guess I meant to say gear oil. The Traveller's stuff is 85W - 140, just like the manual calls for.
