Need ideas for a raised walkway

How about just getting the pathway a bit more elevated in the first place? Some loads of dirt to raise it up out of the ditch it appears to be now. Then topping it with something like loose mulch would keep it from as easily turning into an ice sheet.

A heated concrete sidewalk sounds like an easy way to blow 50 grand here. Keep it simple to start, and see if it improves enough for ya.

Yes, we've thought about that, problem is mud in the spring thaw and early fall rains. If I shovel/plow the snow off the grass, once it starts to warm up the path turns to mud, then we kill all the grass. We also have 3 goofy dogs that tear ass up and down these paths so it gets a lot of wear and tear.

Build the path couple inches or so above ground level hard pack material bucket wide,store some grit material when it gets icy.

Well thats exactly my point, get the pathway elevated at least several inches above the yard level, with a gentle crown on it - it will shed water and not turn to mud. Mulch can be refreshed every year with a new bag or three, to avoid turning to mud also.

Better than a raised walkway would be a railing all the way out there . Less work to clean.

Now that's an interesting idea. I have to talk to the control tower about that.

I keep several pairs of studded slip ons in the garage. They are cheap and easy to put on and take off. They are just a fact of life up north.

I once lived in a house that had wooden walkways. Besides being slippery when wet, they make excellent hiding places for rabbits and other such critters. My neighbor's dog had a great time digging and destroying the walkways to get the rabbits. The guilty party would have gotten away with it if only she hadn't left her collar hooked on one of the broken deck boards. No word on the condition of the rabbit.

Raise the walkway with dirt and lay down some pea gravel on the surface?

Walkway of gravel. Well mounded and graded. Get a set of Muck boots. Clamp on a set of removable spikes. Use the boots when you walk the trail in the winter.
